Overview This position serves as a Practical Nurse in a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF), responsible for providing nursing services to healthcare beneficiaries located at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. Joint Base Andrews (JBA) is a United States military facility located in Prince George's County, Maryland. The facility is under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force 316th Wing, Air Force District of Washington (AFDW). The base was established in 2009, when Andrews Air Force Base and Naval Air Facility Washington were merged. Who May Apply: US Citizens Responsibilities Duties as a Licensed Practical Nurse: Performs or assists in the performance of a number of specialized medical and minor surgical procedures. Prepares the procedure room and medical equipment for the procedure to be performed. Receives the patient and reviews his or her medical history. Uses the nursing process and participates in making nursing assessments. Prepares and positions patient for the procedure. Basic Requirement for a Practical Nurse: Licensure: A current license to practice as a practical/vocational nurse in a State or territory of the United States or District of Columbia OR must have applied for a license to practice. Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as administering immunizations or medications via various routes, assists during diagnostic, therapeutic, or minor surgical procedures, and performing routine procedures, such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), pulmonary function tests, wound care, audiograms and vision screenings. This definition of nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
