Our top-tier benefits and great retirement packages can help you build a rewarding career and lasting future with the State of Illinois.Position Overview The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking to hire a highly organized and detail-oriented Licensed Practical Nurse-Corrections.  This position will be responsible for performing direct nursing care to individuals in a correctional facility.  The successful candidate shall demonstrate a valid Illinois License and good oral and written communication skills, be a self-starter, and be able to carry out nursing pursuant to the direction of medical personnel in a correctional setting.  We encourage all qualified candidates to apply!Essential Functions Performs all nursing duties within the licensee’s scope of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, including but not limited to: preparing and administering medications within the limits of authority, performing nursing interventions as delegated, seeking instruction from a registered professional nurse when implementing new or unfamiliar nursing activities, reporting unsafe, unethical or illegal health care practices or conditions, etc. Makes rounds to monitor and report on patients’ progress and examines, recognizes, and interprets symptoms of patients. Orders medical and other supplies. Participates in completing orientation and in-service training of employees. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires Illinois license as a Practical nurse. Requires one (1) year of practical nursing experience. This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title. Preferred Qualifications Prefers at least one (1) year of nursing experience in a correctional setting. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in mental health. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience problem solving in a nursing position. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working on an interdisciplinary team. Prefers at least one (1) year of working experience in a leadership role. Conditions Of Employment Requires the physical ability to perform duties assigned. Requires a valid, appropriate driver's license and the ability to travel statewide. Requires ability to carry a firearm. Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
