Position Details:

Location: Worcester, MA- Travel to satellite sites may be required as needed.
Department: OBGYN
Schedule: Hours may vary from 7:00 AM-5:30 PM, with 8.5-hour shifts Monday through Friday.

  

This position performs a full range of medical support services while ensuring the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.     

  
Position Highlights & Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides effective patient care directly to patients or through telephone management
  • Delivers care based on patient's specific needs. Interviews patient and or significant other(s) on admission. Uses observation skills to assess patient, including physical, psychosocial and behavioral status. Identifies and prioritizes patient problems based on assessments
  • Urogynecology procedures are performed by nursing staff, including bladder instillations and voiding trials.
  • The Special Procedure Unit is available and included in our Department for outpatient procedures, such as uterine polyp removals.
  • Plans for care collaboratively with the patient as well as multidisciplinary healthcare team. Involves patient and significant other(s) based on patient needs
  • Implements interventions. Evaluates or revises the plan based on patient needs or outcomes
  • Initiates nursing interventions that assist the patient to maximize health capabilities. Reassess and revise plan of care according to patient or significant other(s) education needs. Utilizes EMR tools to proactively ensure that all primary and secondary prevention services are accomplished in a timely fashion
  • Administers, monitors and evaluates all therapeutic interventions including but not limited to safe medication administration according to Standard Policies and Procedures and applicable state and federal laws, including but not limited to Immunizations, Department specific medications
  • After completion of a training program, starts intravenous therapy for hydration and administration of medications as required
  • Administers intravenous medications, including limited IV push medications depending on patient population, e.g. Urgent Care versus Primary Care patients, as required
  • Consistently documents all the aspects of patient care and patient education. Reports pertinent information to physician
  • Ensures nursing judgments and plan are based on physical and psychosocial needs
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Currently licensed as a RN in the State of Massachusetts

     

  • 1+ years of RN / LPN experience
  • Phone triage experience

     

  

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience with EMR systems (EPIC)
  • BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days from hire
  • Proven knowledge of various software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, etc.

  

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Collaboratively plans and prepares patient/family for discharge incorporating support systems/resources as necessary. Appropriately delegates and supervises nursing interventions performed by others. Appropriately prioritizes patient care (e.g. seeks assistance as needed from appropriate resources, reassigns personnel as necessary, recognizes need for emergency intervention, etc.). Provides thorough, timely, and accurate documentation of all pertinent data, therapeutic interventions and patient responses according to established standards. Provides timely and thorough report on assigned patients to other health care team members to ensure integration of services and continuity of patient care. Promotes learning for colleagues and self (e.g. functions as preceptor, instructor, trainer, attends professional development programs, etc.). Proactively identifies risk to patient safety and identifies opportunities to reduce medical/health care errors (i.e. appropriate reporting of errors/incidents). Identifies ethical issues in care and develops plan to address. Safely administers medications and intravenous therapy in accordance with physician’s orders, protocols, policies and procedures. Assesses patient pain level upon admission and as necessary, depending upon diagnosis utilizing the numerical pain scale. Reassesses effectiveness of pain control and notifies physicians as needed, as well as, documents assessment and patients’ response to medication. Responsible for obtaining supporting information and completing required documentation related to medication reconciliation for use by the Attending MD. Collaborates with surgeon, anesthesiologist, clinical coordinator and surgical technicians to assure the patients’ well being during surgical intervention. Maintains sterile fields and directs the correct care, handling, and sterilization of sterile supplies and instruments. Identifies patients correctly by checking patient identification bands and consent forms as well as verifying operative procedure and site before taking patients to the operating room. Applies principles of aseptic practice, oversees the selection and preparation of supplies, equipment and instrumentation to all surgical cases. Applies principles of body mechanics and adapts them to various situations during positioning and transfer of patients. Assures that all techniques and practices carried out during the surgical procedure are accurate and reflect standards of perioperative practice. Maintains sponge, needle and instrument counts according to policies and procedures, including notifying the surgeon of the result of the counts. Identifies, labels, cares for and handles all specimens and cultures according to established policy and procedure. Qualifications Qualifications : Current MA RN License required. ACLS upon hire OR must hold an active BLS card and obtain AHA ACLS within 60 days of hire. Recent OR experience required. CNOR preferred. Excellent communication and critical thinking skills required. Must take call per unit rotation.
