Summary

Cellular Therapy Nurse Coordinator I (CTNC I) is an Oncology Nursing patient therapy coordination position for an experienced registered nurse who will serve as primary nurse in the outpatient setting for a designated population of patients in the Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Immunotherapy Program (BMTCI). These are cancer patients, sickle cell patients, or other patients that require bone marrow transplant or another cellular immunotherapy. The BMTCI Program is rapidly growing and changing, flexibility and emotional intelligence is required.Typical diseases seen within this clinic include lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndrome, sickle cell disease, aplastic anemia. They may also include solid cancers such as Melanoma, sarcoma, lung cancer, breast cancer, gynecologic and testicular cancers. Patients may be in the period from initial consult through long term follow up and even transition into survivorship care. Under the mentorship of an assigned Cellular Therapy Nurse Coordinator II hereafter CTNC II, The CTNC I progressively increase performance to act independently in the utilization of excellent organization, multitasking, communication, and critical thinking skills to work within an assigned patient care team to coordinate the patient experience. This coordination includes the scheduling, accuracy, and follow up on all work up orders and procedures and follow up on all ancillary teams. The nurse will assist with patient and caregiver education, communicating with all stakeholders verbally, written and electronically. Working in clinic and performing ongoing assessments, nursing interventions, maintaining documentation and fee charges in accordance with organizational standards and regulatory guidelines and performing patient education. The candidate will strictly adhere to standard operating procedures, policies, REMs training guidelines, and the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy guidelines.The activities of the CTNC include the coordination of care for autologous transplant patients which includes vital organ testing coordination and patient education. Coordinating insurance authorization for each of the phases of care. Scheduling of patients for cellular collection and arranging the appropriate admission date. The CTNC will also coordinate allogeneic transplants which include the above-mentioned coordination as well as working up a stem cell donor. The donor could be related and collected at Moffitt Cancer Center or be unrelated and collected by the national marrow donor program. Careful attention will be applied to ensure recipient and donor alignment. The CNTC will also be responsible for coordinating the care for patients requiring chimeric antigen receptor therapy or other immunotherapies. This process includes consulting with the patient, arranging for insurance authorization, vital organ testing, cellular collection, and admission coordination. This therapy also includes collaboration with outside pharmaceutical companies through their individual portals. This is done to arrange collection, manufacturing and delivery of cellular products while ensuring patient readiness for therapy.Activities also include astute understanding of individual insurance requirements and how that impacts coordination of the patient. Ability to utilize electronic calendars and EHR to coordinate patient care efficiently and effectively. Maintaining excellent communication with patients, their outside providers, and the whole medical team at Moffitt. Understanding of chemotherapy regimen and how that impacts the coordination process. Primary Moffitt nurse for all team patients until the patient is no longer being followed at Moffitt. Maintaining exceptional attention to details for each patient going through therapy within the BMTCI Program. The CTNC also interacts closely with the BMTCI research team and is often part of the clinical trial activities.

Our BMT Clinic and Treatment Center cares for an average of 110 patients daily. We are currently looking for a Cellular Therapy Nurse Coordinator I to join our team.

Position Highlights

The Cellular Therapy Nurse Coordinator I is an experienced Registered Nurse with a history working with Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Immunotherapy patients. This person will serve as a primary nurse in the outpatient setting for a designated population of patients (primarily pre-BMT-CI and post-BMT-CI patients but also may include patients with the diagnoses for which transplant is indicated). Patients may be in the period from initial consult through long-term follow-up.

Under proper department mentorship the Cellular Therapy Nurse Coordinator I, progressively increases performance to act independently in the utilization of excellent organization, communication, and critical thinking skills to work within an assigned patient care team to coordinate the patient experience including but not limited to: the scheduling, accuracy, and follow-up on all workup orders and procedures, assisting with patient and caregiver education, communicating with all stakeholders (verbally, written and electronically), and working in clinic performing ongoing assessments, nursing interventions, and maintaining documentation in accordance with the organization standards and regulatory guidelines.

Minimum Experience Required

• Two years relevant experience as an RN in BMT or cellular immunotherapy, inpatient or outpatient setting. OR
• Two years relevant experience as an RN in Critical Care or a Critical Care-related area in
  
  

oncology. Would consider: Five years relevant experience as an RN in medical oncology, preferably in an outpatient setting.

Responsibilities

Maintains knowledge in the provision of care, services, and symptom management to BMT and Hematology patients of various ages and abilities. Consistently and accurately gains skill in organizing and performing the duties of Primary Nurse, with minimal guidance, within scope of practice to coordinate and document the various BMT/Hematology phases of care, related to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical care in the outpatient environment while taking into consideration common symptoms for many toxicities, side effects and complications of treatment.

Functions as a team member working alongside physicians, APP’s, nurses and support staff to coordinate care, communicate results, request assistance, and offer support as needed for defined patient panel. Partners with supportive services within Moffitt, coordinate a plan of care including but not limited to: evaluative testing, financial, pharmacy, donor services, admission, and follow-up care. Serves as the central coordinator for all the phases of care. Participates in Evidence based improvement activities related to area of practice.

Utilizes a variety of teaching methods to ensure patient and family understanding of the transplant process and individual responsibilities. Coordinates patient access to the support staff and teaching initiatives within the outpatient setting.

Demonstrates strong organizational skills and proficiency in operating multiple electronic applications and databases. Utilizes these applications and databases to monitor appointments, documentation, and results obtained in adherence with Nursing and Department Standards.

Credentials And Qualifications

BSN from an ACEN or CCNE accredited institution with at least two years of relevant experience or ASN from an ACEN or CCNE accredited institution with 2 years of relevant experience

FL RN License

BLS Certification

Salary Range

$45.02 - $68.72
