Handles surgical instruments and equipment according to manufacturer instructions and hospital policy, including inspection, point-of-use cleaning, and sterilization. Performs and documents sponge, needle, and instrument counts in collaboration with the circulating nurse to support patient safety. Assists with patient positioning, draping, and transfer under the direction of the RN to ensure patient safety and procedural readiness. Supports ongoing maintenance and accuracy of physician preference cards and procedural documentation. Restocks supplies, cleans and returns equipment to designated storage areas, and prepares rooms for subsequent cases to ensure OR efficiency. Performs other duties as assigned. Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Complies with all policies and standards. Qualifications Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program required or Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences required 0-2 years of operating room surgical technician experience required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Expertise in surgical techniques, instrumentation, and sterile processing. Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond quickly during procedures. Strong organizational and time management skills to maintain efficient workflow. Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards, including safety and infection control protocols. Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with the perioperative team. SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST (OPERATING ROOM) MAIN FUNCTION: Functions as a member of the surgical team by preparing and maintaining the sterile field, handling instruments and supplies, and assisting the surgeon, RN, and other healthcare team members during surgical procedures. Assists in the care, preparation, cleaning, and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile equipment. RESPONSIBLE TO: Department Clinical Manager, Surgery Charge Nurse MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Able to respond to WCH within 30 minutes when on call. • Current BLS certification must be maintained while in this position. • Demonstrated knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and operating room procedures. • Completion of a surgical technology training program, military surgical technology training, healthcare-related training, or equivalent on-the-job training and demonstrated competency. • Ability to successfully complete facility orientation and competency validation for assigned surgical procedures and responsibilities. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist, Operating Room Technician, Surgical Scrub Technician, OB Technician, or related perioperative role. • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program. • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential or other nationally recognized surgical technology certification. • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) experience in a surgical setting. ADDITIONAL POSITION EXPECTATIONS: a. Verifies correct sponge, tape, needle, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure. b. Assists the RN in receiving the patient in the operating room and verifies patient identification and required documentation. c. Assists the RN in assessing and supporting the patient's physical and emotional needs according to age and developmental status. d. Assembles necessary supplies and equipment and verifies proper functioning prior to procedures. e. Assists in positioning the patient and preparing the operative site. f.
