SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The RN School Nurse is responsible for supporting the health, safety, and well-being of children within the childcare setting at Catherine Hershey School Early Childhood Learning Center. Duties include clinical assessment, triaging illness and injury, health services coordination, health education, regulatory compliance oversight, and collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams to ensure children receive appropriate health care and support while participating in programming. The RN serves as a health resource for families and ensures compliance with all applicable childcare licensing, health, and accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES - The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
- Provide nursing assessment and triage for ill or injured children. Care for children presenting with illness while awaiting parent or guardian pickup.
- Monitor, manage, and maintain health records including medical conditions, medications, immunizations, and health-related documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct required health screenings, including height, weight, vision, and hearing assessments within established regulatory timeframes.
- Support families in understanding medical recommendations and navigating healthcare systems in collaboration with Family Success Advocates and other support staff. Assist families in communicating with healthcare providers while maintaining parent responsibility for direct medical communication and decision-making.
- Communicate with families and staff regarding illness exclusion criteria, communicable diseases, and other health-related matters. Report communicable diseases and reportable injuries to applicable regulatory agencies and maintain required site postings.
- Utilize designated electronic health and information systems to document care, maintain communication records, and track health-related information. Update classroom health care charts.
- Maintain the Health Suite, including organization, inventory management, supply monitoring, and ordering.
- Train and support staff and leadership in medication administration procedures and requirements in accordance with organizational policy and licensing regulations.
- Comply with all applicable Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) childcare licensing regulations and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Support other centers in the county, as requested.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing
- Three (3) years of nursing experience
- Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
- Pediatric, school nursing, community health, childcare, or public health experience.
- Experience with electronic health records and data management systems.
