How you make a difference

As a Nurse Practitioner MAT, you will deliver comprehensive medical care to patients, operating within established policies and procedures and in alignment with state regulations, under the guidance of the Site Medical Director and fellow site Physicians. Your role involves meticulous documentation of provided services for monitoring purposes and promptly communicating any schedule changes or coverage needs to the Medical Director and site director to ensure uninterrupted medical services for patients even during your absence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts thorough medical examinations of referred patients upon reporting to the assigned facility, adhering to clinic treatment policies and all relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Provides guidance and training to medical staff, participates in case conferences, and collaborates with clinic personnel on treatment plans while ensuring accurate and timely documentation of patient progress in SOAP format.
  • Responds promptly to health emergencies following standard protocols, reviews records as necessary, and utilizes available resources for problem resolution before considering off-site referrals.
  • Performs comprehensive medical assessments, including history-taking and physical examinations, to diagnose opioid dependence and coexisting medical or psychiatric disorders, making appropriate referrals for further treatment.
  • Prescribes tailored patient care regimens, upholding confidentiality standards and contributing insights to facility committees upon request from the Site Medical Director or Health Services Administrator.

Additional Details

Full Time, M-Friday 8 hour shifts (0800-1600) You should have strong experience assessing and treating patients with substance use disorders, including opioid use disorder and co-occurring medical or psychiatric conditions. You should be skilled in conducting histories and physical examinations, developing and reviewing treatment plans, prescribing and monitoring medication-assisted treatment, and responding to urgent medical needs. Strong clinical judgment, accurate SOAP-format documentation, patient education, regulatory compliance, and multidisciplinary collaboration are essential. Candidates should also be comfortable working independently, interacting with patients with patience and tact, and recognizing when additional consultation or referral is needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

Experience

  • 2 years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner

Licenses/Certifications

  • Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment.
  • Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain DATA 2000 Waiver prior to employment.

How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. Key Responsibilities Conducts routine and emergency medical care for inmates, including chronic care clinics, infirmary rounds, and emergency treatment on-site. Adheres to established policies and procedures for medical care, including documentation in SOAP format, adherence to formulary regimens, and utilizing available in-house resources for treatment. Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual judgments and actions, while also reporting any concerns or questions to the Medical Director or Health Services Administrator. Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with accepted practices for incarcerated individuals. Provides input into facility mandatory committees as requested. Additional Details This role will be a true PRN/As needed role, with coverage being needed periodically to cover time off for our full time providers. Candidates should be comfortable with substance withdrawal management, partnering with psych NP's and behavioral health staff, infectious disease management, MAT and standardized protocols (Title 15/NCCHC/ACA). In addition, candidates should feel comfortable doing suturing, incision and draining (abscesses are extremely common), basic wound care and debridement, splinting/minor fracture management, EKG interpretation, and emergency response (codes and overdoses) Qualifications & Requirements Education A graduate of an accredited school of nursing An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage. Licenses/Certifications Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment. Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
