 The Medical Assistant assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider. Manages the check-in and registration process, interview patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records information on patients' charts. Draws and collects blood samples from patients and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.

 Qualifications

 Required:  

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 

AND 

  • 1+ years of working experience as a Medical Assistant in a Hospital, Primary Care, Emergency Department, or Urgent Care setting  

OR  

  • One of the following MA certifications at the time of hire (or must obtain within 12 months of hire): 
  • CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (verified through NHA, National Healthcareer Association)  
  • CMA - Certified Health Professionals (verified through CHP, Certified Health Professionals)
  • CMA- Certified Medical Assistant (verified through AAMA, American Association of Medical Assistant)
  • CMA - AAH American Allied Health  
  • RMA- Registered Medical Assistant (verified through AMT, American Medical Technologists)  
  • NCMA- National Certified Medical Assistant (verified through NCCT, National Center for Competency Testing)  
  • NRCMA- Nationally Registered Medical Assistant (verified through the NAHP, National Association for Health Professionals) 
  • ARMA - American Registry of Medical Assistants 

OR  

  • One of the following: 
  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, LPN or LVN at the time of hire (verified through state license) 
  • EMT- Emergency Medical Technician (verified through state certification and/or the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) 
  • Paramedic (verified through state certification and/or and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) 

 Required Licenses/Certifications 

  • CPOE certification required within 2 weeks of hire if MA certification is not obtained at hire 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA) 

 

  Essential Functions

  • Conduct patient registration, which includes securing required paperwork and insurance documentation, and verification of insurance and patient eligibility.
  • Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments for assigned centers.
  • Coordinate provider referrals to assigned Specialist.
  • Answer patient questions regarding their care and keep them informed of their status.
  • Inform technical staff of patient flow.
  • Prepare patients for examination, which includes conducting interviews to verify patient information, record medical history; confirm purpose of visit
  • Perform preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalate critical cases to the provider as needed.
  • Conduct point of care testing as needed (i.e., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG); and provide patient information to providers.
  • Responsible for stocking supplies and maintenance of exam rooms, front desk, and reception area; ensure providers have medical supplies needed.
  • Responsible for completing order sheets to maintain supply inventory levels; regularly checking expiration dates on supplies.
  • Responsible for maintenance of medical records and scanning charts to patient files.
  • Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence
  • Ensure reception is well maintained
  • Conduct courtesy callbacks for patient follow-up.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, which include cashing out, end-of-day communication, and securing the building.
  • Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT - CARDIAC ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY

**Full Time: $2,500 SIGN-ON BONUS** The Medical Assistant performs basic direct patient care activities, such as lab tests, treatments, and medication/immunization administration. These are performed under the direction of the Nurse and/or the physician in preparation for the patient's examination and treatment. The incumbent carries out clerical activities, quality control activities, performance improvement initiatives, etc. in support of the physician practice as assigned. This position also serves as a resource for the clerical/clinical staff in the practice. Essential Job Functions Deliver direct and indirect patient care in accordance with hospital/physician practices policies, procedures, and protocols. Assist to collects patient healthcare data, including VS, weight, chief complaint and pain assessment as directed. Complete patient care treatments and testing as ordered. Comply with completeness, accuracy and timeliness of documentation. Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures. Communicate pertinent information of actual or potential problems to the physician or nurse. Perform clerical functions in support of patient care and office functions. Answer telephone calls, taking accurate messages and relaying them to the appropriate staff. Obtain and verify accurate patient demographic and insurance information entering it into the billing system. Accurately enter codes, based on diagnosis given, and enters codes and charges into billing system. Complete forms and letters necessary for continued patient care. Provide for patient safety in compliance with hospital and physician practice policies. Label all patient specimens with identifiers per policy. Adhere to infection control process, including standard precautions, to reduce the risk of acquiring or transmitting infections. Assist in continuous survey readiness or inspections and surveys. Perform all quality control, monitoring functions and reports out of range information immediately to supervisor. Consistently practice National Patient Safety Goals. Knowledge of and/or ability to schedule surgery, procedures, and testing for patients. Exit counseling which includes education, scheduling of testing and providing patients with necessary information. Prepare charts for clinic sessions and obtain vital signs and weight. Perform control studies and completes log books according to policy. Perform phlebotomy procedures, reads the test results, and documents accordingly. Prepare the exam rooms and stocks supplies daily. Provide pre and post-examination education and counseling. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High School Diploma, GED or next level of higher education. Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, including Outlook and Excel. Preferred Qualifications Previous outpatient office experience. License, Certification & Clearances Medical Assistant Certification preferred. Act 33 with renewal Act 34 with renewal Act 73 FBI Clearance Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the America Heart Association (CPR and AED) program. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
