How you make a difference

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides medical care to inmates, including conducting exams, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds. 
  • Maintains accurate and legible progress note documentation in SOAP format and adheres to formulary guidelines. 
  • Responds to emergencies and makes logical decisions regarding non-formulary drugs or off-site referrals. 
  • Supports existing policies and procedures for admission, transfer, and specialty consultant referrals. 
  • Maintains confidentiality and provides input into facility committees as requested. 

Qualifications & Requirements

Education  

  • A graduate of an accredited school of nursing 
  • An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. 

Experience  

  • Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred.   
  • Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment.  
  • Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage. 

 

Licenses/Certifications  

  • Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment.   
  • Must have and maintain current CPR certification.

Description The Clinical Program Manager is responsible for assuring compliance with mandated clinical orientation, competency assessment and interventions in the assigned clinical program of designated nursing staff within the Medical Center. This individual interfaces directly with MSMC Departments, Administrators, Nursing, Medical and Quality Leadership, and Clinical Staff, managing the educational and operational impact of all clinical care delivery, staff performance, and outcome measures to support clinical practice. Responsibilities 1. Oversees clinical operations within the program, using data and fact-based problem solving techniques to improve processes and outcomes. Ensures that all clinical initiatives run according to institutional and departmental policies and in accordance with any government or regulatory requirements as applicable. 2. Recruits, orients, trains, coaches, counsels, mentors, disciplines, and evaluates staff in accordance with all internal policies and procedures. Communicates values, strategies, and objectives of department or division on a regular basis. Oversees the collection, compilation, and analysis of clinical program activity data to evaluate clinical performance and competence. 10. Provides technical assistance, resource services, consultation and education to clinical specialty service relative to orientation, ongoing assessment of competency and performance improvement activities. 11. Serves as a clinical role model and resource to the nursing staff. 12. Prepares reports and analysis associated with orientation of new hires, ongoing competency and evaluation of staff performance and identification of related outcome measures. 13. Provides timely status reports of results of assignments including identification of patterns and trends that require actions. 14. Collaborates with other members of the health care team in the development, implementation, and ongoing review of policies, procedures, and standards of care for designated patient populations. 15. Participates in the performance appraisal process of designated Nursing staff. Qualifications Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is required. Masters in Nursing or health related field is preferred. Certification in specialty area preferred. 5 years directly related experience (some supervisory preferred) New York State License with current registration as a registered professional nurse.
