The Medical Assistant provides professional clinical care for patients following established standards and practices. Prepares patients during office visits and assists patients and family members before, during and after a doctor’s visit. Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during treatment/procedures, examinations, and testing of patients. Prepare, restock, and sterilize examination rooms, procedure rooms, lab area and all other patient care areas per established policies and procedures. Record patients' medical history, health maintenance, and chief complaint. Measure, record, and document vital signs. Where applicable, perform phlebotomy, injections and other specimen collection per established policies and procedures as directed by the provider. Educate patients by providing information and instructions as directed by the provider. Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations. Sterilize medical instruments per established standards and procedures. Relay messages from patients and front office staff to providers. Represent the office in a professional manner. Treat all customers, internal and external, in a courteous and cooperative manner. Participate in team activities and professional development activities. Attend required meetings. Demonstrate and embody the Women’s Care mission and core values. Compliance with all HIPAA rules, regulations, and guidelines. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. (FL Only) Certified Medical Assistant preferred OR the ability to obtain the certification within the first 120 days of employment. To be eligible for employment and to obtain an MA certification, you must be a graduate of a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program OR served in the Armed Forces as a Medical Technician with honorable discharge. Current CPR and/or BLS certification preferred OR the ability to obtain the certification within 30 days of employment via Women’s Care training. Experience working in OBGYN or Primary Care a plus. Working knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to perform phlebotomy and administer injections, if applicable. Ability to perform dosage calculations and measurement conversions. Must possess the ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of internal personnel, providers, personnel of outside organizations, and patients and their family members, both written and verbally. Must possess good organizational skills, handle multiple tasks concurrently, and be able to work effectively with all levels of aforementioned groups. Overview The Medical Assistant is responsible for efficient and courteous registration, transfer and discharge of patients within established policies and procedures; thoroughly compiles and types medical information for patients' records and statistical reports and maintains current and accurate patient account receivables. The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities and accommodative services for the comfort and well-being of patients in accordance with physicians' orders. Responsibilities Performs basis patient care procedures as required. Participates in conferences and serves on committees as requested. Participates in patient and family education as necessary. Prepares for and assists with diagnostic and therapeutic treatments. Takes and records vital signs, height and weight. Performs catheterizations and provides catheter care. Administers oral and intra-muscular medications. Cares for patient receiving oxygen therapy. Applies sterile and non-sterile compresses and bandages. Tests urine for sugar, acetone, and Ph. Assists with physical examinations. Applies ace bandages, hot and/or cold compresses. Collects specimens, blood, urine, stool, and sputum. May do venipunctures and EKGs as needed.
