If you have experience working with adult populations, we will provide training on working with pediatric patients and their families while leveraging the adult RN experience you already have. We will personalize an orientation just for you to set you up for success in the pediatric specialty you are hired for. This CICU is a 24-bed unit quaternary care referral center for four states: Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (WAMI region). Patients cared for are newborns up to young adults with acquired and congenital heart disease. The CICU supports robust mechanical circulatory assist and cardiac transplant programs. Specialized care provided in the CICU includes cerebral oximetry monitoring, inhaled nitric oxide, temporary pacemakers, heart failure management, open chest procedures, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Extracorporeal life support represents a highly specialized form of cardiopulmonary support that includes the use of ECMO and ventricular assist devices (VAD). As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children's policies/procedures and guidelines of care. Responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care. Using the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient's family, significant others, and members of the health care team. May be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code. Assists in meeting Seattle Children's strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e., Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), Value Based Behaviors, Error Prevention, Patient Safety, Workforce Community and Connection etc. Required Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Prior experience in a pediatric related health care setting, or a specific area of nursing, may be required for specific departments. Required Credentials Current Washington State RN License, or other current state license that the RN is required to work in. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions at time of hire unless the incumbent possesses a current appropriate Life Support Education required for their practice area (refer to requirements per practice area below.) BLS must be maintained in current status until the incumbent obtains the appropriate Life Support Life Support Education required for their practice area (refer to requirements per practice area below) NOTE: Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers. ACLS will not be accepted as a substitute to the requirements listed above. Successful candidates will be expected to support the department's commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. This position provides a faculty appointment at the rank of Teaching Associate in the Department of Surgery with an anticipated start date in Fall 2026. Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The base salary range for this position will be: $10,326 - $15,391 per month commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. The University of Washington Medical Center Montlake Campus CTICU is a fast paced, high acuity unit providing exceptional care for heart and lung transplant patients, patients requiring mechanical circulatory support devices (including a large volume of VA/VV ECMO patients), complex aortic and adult congenital post-surgical patients and general cardiac, thoracic and vascular post-surgical patients requiring critical care management. The existing CTICU APP team is now expanding in response to unprecedented growth. The Cardiothoracic Surgery Intensive Care (CTICU) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a member of the Cardiothoracic Surgery CTICU multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, residents, fellows, and RNs providing intensive care services to patients and families. The CTICU APP role promotes independent clinical practice within a highly collaborative and established team model and is well supported with dedicated 24/7 in-house CTICU intensivist support. Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for providing independent and collaborative patient management from admission to the CTICU through transfer of care to the acute care setting. Responsibilities include the following: Work on a dedicated cardiothoracic inter-professional team with other established APPs, critical care physicians and cardiothoracic surgeons in addition to the multidisciplinary team. Perform bedside ICU procedures including central line and arterial line placements, bronchoscopy, and point of care ultrasound 24/7 dedicated CTICU in-house intensivist support Comprehensive 3-4 month 1:1 precepted onboarding available with an established team of experienced critical care APPs Flexible schedule with rotating day/night/weekend coverage requirements Participate in the education of nursing and resident staff.
