Sign-On Bonus for External applicants or current CHW MA Apprentice Students only About the Unit HDVCH Behavioral Health is a growing clinic that offers psychiatry, psychology, and therapy services. At our primary location, 35 Michigan St, we provide psychiatric medication management services, psychological testing, and an autism spectrum disorders clinic. Our secondary location, 25 Michigan St, includes psychological testing and therapy services. Because of the nature of our services, we tend to have a high volume of psychiatric and therapy services provided virtually. We currently have 8 psychiatry and APP providers and 18 psychology and psychotherapy providers with additional growth on the horizon. We have two clinical staff and are looking to fill an additional third position. The clinic also has clerical staff to assist with referrals and scheduling calls. Our clinical staff include both medical assistants (MA) and ambulatory care technicians (ACT). Responsibilities include rooming for virtual and in-person visits, inclusive of obtaining vitals and completion of necessary screenings as applicable, answering clinic phones, addressing in-basket messages, obtaining prior authorizations, communicating with providers regarding patient needs, and provide other clinical support as needed. While we are a behavioral health clinic and our clinical staff may not have as many medical responsibilities as other medical specialties, our patients are often experiencing many complexities and require clinical attentiveness. General Summary: Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides basic nursing care to patients and performs related tasks necessary to support the unit. Must meet one of the following requirements: Current Certified Nurse Aide (CENA) certification, or Current enrollment (and continued progression) in a health science program required with completion of nursing fundamentals course and/or one clinical rotation preferred. SPECIMEN COLLECTION: Collects and labels sputum, urine, and stool specimens for laboratory testing; testing urine for sugar, acetone, blood or pH; straining urine for kidney stones; and using the glucometer to test blood glucose levels. VITAL SIGNS / MEASUREMENT: Measures and record accurate vital signs and weight including oral and tympanic temperature, radial and apical pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate; and using standing, chair, sling and bed scales to measure weight. EQUIPMENT: Uses equipment and supplies safely and appropriately. This includes assisting patients with incentive spirometry; setting up oxygen flow meters; setting up suction equipment and disposing of suction canisters; and applying and removing ice bags, moist or dry heat, ace bandages, arm slings, binders, supports, anti-embolism stockings, sequential compression devices (SCDs), restraints. INFECTION CONTROL: Assists with controlling the spread of infection by using aseptic technique; adhering to universal/standard precautions; caring appropriately for patients with special isolation precautions; passing clean linen and bagging and disposing of soiled linen; replacing full sharps containers; cleaning equipment between patients’ use; and cleaning equipment prior to return to Central Processing Department (CPD). DOCUMENTATION: Document care given as directed by the RN. COMMUNICATION: Communicates effectively using Vocera, unit paging system, telephone system and pneumatic tube system; answering patient call lights; reporting observations to the RN; keeping the RN informed of care delivered; maintaining patient confidentiality. CASUAL -NIGHTS Scope of Work To monitor noninvasive cardiac activity and other clinical parameters of patient populations ranging from adolescence to geriatric by continuous electrocardiographic display and pulse oximetry. The technician is responsible for the interpretation the patient’s cardiac rhythm and preforms critical alarm hand off with the nursing unit appropriately. The technician also maintains data related to the monitoring and provides daily reports for the patient's permanent medical record via electronic shift report directly into EMR. QUALIFICATIONS High School education. Certified Cardiovascular Technician School or comparable certification preferred. Location BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital Title Nursing Supervisor (Unit Coordinator) - Emergency Department (ED) - Bronson Methodist Hospital - Full-time Midshift *Up to $10,000 Sign on Bonus* Under general supervision from the unit manager and/or director, and in accordance with the policies and guidelines established within the organization and individual unit, the unit coordinator’s priority is to function as leader and clinical liaison with staff, physicians and management, providing continuity of leadership day to day. The unit coordinator acts as a role model, mentor, coach and resource person to staff to ensure all unit standards are maintained and to encourage a team environment. The unit coordinator is involved in assisting managers in attracting, developing, maintaining, and retaining qualified staff members. Duties may include assisting with hiring, orientation, monitoring and evaluating performance, problem solving, employee counseling, staffing, payroll and budget. In addition to duties involving unit personnel, the unit coordinator serves as a contact for internal and external customers. He/she is responsible for maintaining a safe environment of care, which fosters positive customer service and meets all quality standards, implementing new and monitoring ongoing processes. Involves regularly lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (i.e., up to 50 pounds), and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects. • Evaluates quality and appropriateness of care. o Conducts/facilitates audits for accreditation, regulatory requirements and organizational standards. • Accounts for coordination of day-to-day unit operations, i.e. patient placements, staff assignments. • Assumes responsibility for staffing and scheduling personnel. Assignments reflect appropriate utilization of personnel. * Coordinates department staff schedule with manager input as needed. * Adjusts department staffing on a day-to-day basis to meet staffing needs (including managing volume changes, replacing call-ins, etc.) * Facilitates staff attendance at organizational committees, meetings, etc. * Manages staffing levels to help department achieve its budget. * Participates in projecting staffing needs and assisting in creating a staffing plan with manager/director. o Approve/deny PTO. * Follows organizational policies and procedures for staffing and provides open communication with staff about scheduling requests/issues. • Acts as clinical expert resource, mentoring staff, maintains positive relationships, and builds teamwork within the entire healthcare team. * Maintains knowledge on guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards. * Provides input into guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards. • Acts as first responder for clinical and service recovery issues. Acts as a resource person for staff questions related to job performance and departmental processes. • Provides guidance for and supervision of personnel accountable to nurse manager. o Provides ongoing feedback to staff related to job performance (focuses on immediate performance coaching as necessary). * Monitors staff performance on a day-to-day basis. o Works with manager to develop Personal Development Plans including follow up and mentoring. * Acts as role model, coach, and mentor to staff. • Evaluates performance of personnel. * Provides and collates peer input for evaluation. * Communicates all staff behavior and performance issues with manager as necessary. * Participates in discipline process of employees with manager notification for attendance, behavioral and performance issues. * Participates in the evaluation process of employees at manager’s discretion. • Co-facilitates planning and conducting of shared governance meeting. Acts as mentor to staff chair of shared governance. • Facilitates charge nurse and other unit meetings, reporting to nurse manager. • Participates in recruitment, selection and retention of personnel. o Assists manager in the staff hiring process (e.g. assist with interview process). • Creates and supports an environment where innovation and creativity are encouraged and valued.
