The DON is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of nursing services, providing leadership and administrative oversight to all nursing staff. In this role, you will develop, implement, and maintain nursing service objectives, standards of practice, and care delivery systems while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the Nurse Practice Act. You will oversee the RAI process, MDS coordination, care planning, staffing, scheduling, quality improvement initiatives, and resident care outcomes. The Director of Nursing collaborates closely with the Administrator, interdisciplinary team members, physicians, residents, families, and external providers to coordinate admissions, discharges, referrals, and individualized care plans. This leader will foster a positive workplace culture, support staff development, promote resident rights and dignity, and drive excellence in clinical quality and customer service. Responsibilities Provide leadership, direction, and oversight of all nursing services. Ensure quality resident care through effective clinical programs and care delivery systems. Oversee the RAI process, MDS completion, care planning, and regulatory compliance. Manage nursing staffing, scheduling, recruitment support, retention efforts, and employee development. Monitor clinical outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives. Oversee infection prevention and control practices throughout the facility. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and facility policies. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate admissions, discharges, and transitions of care. Promote medication safety, resident rights, confidentiality, and person-centered care. Partner with the Administrator and department leaders to maintain operational efficiency and budget goals. Ensure staff receive ongoing education, training, and competency validation. Support a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. Qualifications Licensure & Education Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Minnesota required. Training in rehabilitation, gerontology, nursing administration, management, supervision, or psychiatric/geriatric nursing prior to or within 12 months of appointment as Director of Nursing Services. Clinical Experience Previous nursing leadership experience in a skilled nursing, rehabilitation, transitional care, or long-term care setting preferred. Experience with ventilator management, IV therapy, wound care, and complex clinical services required. Strong knowledge of MDS, care planning, quality measures, and regulatory compliance. Preferred Certification Infection Preventionist Certification (IP-BC, LTC-CIP, or equivalent) preferred. Skills & Abilities Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Demonstrated adaptability, resilience, emotional intelligence, and sound clinical judgment. Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats. Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Nurse Manager, RN Position Summary The Nurse Manager provides leadership and oversight for a designated nursing unit by directing the nursing process, managing resources, and ensuring high-quality resident care through effective assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role conducts and oversees comprehensive assessments, develops and updates individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, and ensures clinical practices align with state and federal regulations. The Nurse Manager supervises nursing staff, delegates tasks appropriately, addresses performance concerns, and maintains adequate staffing. Additional responsibilities include accurate documentation, clear communication of physician orders and care updates, precise medication administration and controlled substance management, and adherence to Medicare, facility, and Department of Health standards. The position also supports audits, QAPI initiatives, ongoing training, and a positive, compliant work culture focused on resident well-being. Qualifications: Licensure & Certification: Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in Minnesota and certified in CPR and emergency care for healthcare providers.
