As a Correctional Hemodialysis Nurse , you will work alongside correctional staff and other medical professionals to provide quality care to the individuals in residence ensuring all nursing care is performed in compliance to standards and adherence to regulations. Responsibilities The Hemodialysis Nurse provides hemodialysis treatment to the patients within the facility. Duties and responsibilities may include and are not limited to: Conducts initial and ongoing assessments of inmates requiring hemodialysis, develops and implements individualized care plans, and monitors patient responses to treatment. Administers dialysis treatments, including setting up and monitoring dialysis machines, managing access sites (e.g., fistulas, grafts, catheters), and ensuring patient safety during the procedure. Administers medications, including those related to dialysis treatment, according to physician orders and facility protocols. Responds to and manages emergencies related to dialysis treatment, including potential complications like hypotension, bleeding, or infection. Implements and maintains strict infection control practices to prevent the spread of infections within the dialysis unit. Works closely with nephrologists, other nurses, correctional officers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective care. Accurately and thoroughly documents all aspects of patient care, including assessments, treatments, medication administration, and any adverse events. Educates patients about their kidney disease, dialysis treatment, and self-care strategies. Adheres to all security protocols and regulations of the correctional facility while providing patient care.
