Registered Nurse - CATH LAB Cardiology/Interventional Radiology RN- FULL-TIME

$10,000 Sign on Bonus (for external candidates) Additionally, the nurse will assist the cardiologist/radiologist in all aspects of invasive, as well as non-invasive cardiology/radiology, including procedures performed at One Vernon Place, which may include and not be limited to circulating, monitoring and recording hemodynamic parameters. Communication: Reports pertinent observations, changes, and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (physician, manager, supervisor, etc.), Records these observations, changes and reactions accurately, concisely and legibly for patients undergoing cardiovascular procedures. Plans, implements and documents health teaching with patient and/or significant other. Communicates with the physician continuously and as needed about patient’s condition. Communicates with and serves as liaison between patients family and physician. Performance: Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs. Based on those conditions and needs, develops and implements individual plan of care with revisions as patient's condition and needs change. Responsible for admitting, recovering, and discharging of patients from the Cardiac Cath/ Interventional Radiology Lab. Maintains the standards of nursing care within the guidelines of the nursing department. Monitors the patient at all times Demonstrates knowledge of and implements policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing departments as well as cardiology, radiology and critical care areas policies and procedures. Directs, supervises and evaluates nursing care provided to the patients and administers direct care, by using professional nursing skills and judgments as required. Ensures pre-op checklist is complete before patient Is taken into catheterization lab. Shares on-call duties Institutes emergency measures for Code Blue, Fire and Disaster plans. Demonstrates knowledge of arterial lines, Swan-Ganz and documents appropriately. Assists physicians with patient, procedures, and exams. Transcribes physician orders accurately and legibly. Administers medications, including IV's according to hospital policy and procedure. Assists with inventory. Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs are met. Demonstrates cost-conscious use of supplies; maintains equipment in a clean and safe manner. Maintains change sheet for all procedures. Is knowledgeable and supports Guest Services policies and programs. Is aware of and adheres to hospital attendance policy. Is aware of and adheres to Administrative Policy # A-230 (General appearance) Participates in the orientation of new staff and in the clinical experience of students. Participates in on-call off hours/weekends/holidays. Must be able to respond within 30 minutes when on-call. Assumes personal responsibility for professional development and continuing education. SUMMARY To give direct nursing care for patients under the supervision of the Professional Nurse. JOB DUTIES Reports pertinent observations, changes, and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person. Notifies team leader, charge person and/or physician of observations regarding patients. Documentation on patient record of observations, changes and reactions and the reporting of them to the appropriate person. Communicates patient’s condition to team leader at change of shift. Conducts “hourly rounds” on assigned patients consistently. Focus is on safety of patients through fall reduction, restraint reduction and the safe administration of medications. Cognizant of and addresses the patient’s level of comfort and pain management. Expresses concern and understanding regarding patient and family satisfaction. Performs direct patient care using the nursing process and technical skills according to hospital policy and procedure and is evident by both observation and documentation. Answers call lights and assists patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living (ADL). Assists in admitting, transferring and discharging of patients. Provides for patient’s comfort and safety. Scheduling Requirements for Applicants Seeking Extended Hours PD applicants requesting to work more than 24 hours per week shall be required to fulfill one weekend per month or two weekend shifts per month , as determined by the operational needs of the unit. Additionally, such employees will be scheduled for two holidays per year , rotating between winter and summer assignments. Traditional Per Diem Commitment Applicants seeking a traditional PD schedule (approximately 16 hours per month ) must commit to a minimum of 4 hours per week , or an equivalent of 16 hours per month . $5,000 SIGN ON BONUS (EXTERNAL CANDIDATES) JOB DUTIES Prepares patients for provider visits according to approved policies and procedures i.e. reason for visit, history (past medical, family and social), symptoms, problems, weight, height, vital signs, medications, allergies. Administers medications/vaccinations to patients as regulated by the Nurse Practice Acts and as ordered by the provider. Reviews and updates medication lists identifying any possible ineffective drug therapies, adverse reactions, side effects, drug allergies and contraindicated medications. Assists physicians with procedures as requested. Notifies patients of lab and test results. Collects specimens as directed and performs limited lab tests on site as ordered by the provider. Maintains equipment and controls including refrigerator temperatures if applicable. Responsible for patient and equipment safety. Communicates and interacts effectively with patients and families, physicians, peers and other health team members to maximize successful patient outcomes. Patient education. Assists in the facilitation of smooth patient flow. Greets patients and families courteously. Maintains good communication with providers and coworkers. Assures adequate amounts of medical supplies and medications are available and stocked appropriately. Sterilizes instruments and instrument packs if applicable. Maintains inventory of drug samples and inventory and rotates stock to make sure oldest is used first. Also, checks expiration dates monthly. Receives prescription refills calls and are appropriately sent to the pharmacy under a provider’s direct supervision and are thoroughly documented in the patient record by the end of the business day the prescriptions were taken care of. Assures nursing documentation in the medical records is complete including lot numbers for vaccines and samples. Performs administrative duties as requested. To include but not limited to: Appointment scheduling and follow up appointment scheduling as needed, telephone etiquette including message taking and recalling patients, Picking up, opening and distributing mail, obtain authorizations as needed, obtaining co-payments and self payment amounts from patients.
