Registered Nurse Job Summary: Evaluate, plan, implement and document nursing care given to OB patients. Function within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, to deliver comprehensive, family centered nursing care to mothers and babies during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.

We are searching for a new team member to become part of an outstanding OB unit!

  • Safe staffing - Two nurses scheduled each shift.

  • Active Involvement in each patient’s care. With diligent, determined providers we average an overall C-section rating of less than 20%.

  • Patient Centered Care - We cultivate relationships with our patients from the beginning of their journey. We strive to make patients feel involved in their care and guide them in determining the best plan specific to their needs and desires.

  • To Make a Difference - A 1:1 ratio with our labor patients and usually no more than 2 couplets for postpartum. You can expect to have a significant impact on the patients you serve.

Registered Nurse Essential Functions/Accountabilities:

  • Work as a team with co-workers on 12-hour shift to manage OB patient from labor, delivery, postpartum, to home

  • Assess patient understanding of plan of care, to better facilitate education opportunities and materials during hospital stay, working towards dismissal from admission.

  • Follows established protocols for narcotic and other medication administration ensuring the 5 rights of medication administration are met.

  • Communicates pertinent information related to patients’ condition to inform doctors, additional staff nurses and/or ancillary departments of patients’ needs and/or plan of care.

  • Document concerns, findings, and actions, implementing appropriate care plans related to patients’ diagnosis for continuity of care.

  • Assess patients’ condition, continuously monitoring changes in status, physical findings, vital signs, and coping skills ensuring appropriate care is given related to patients’ needs.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Evaluate fetal heart tones, contractions, and vital signs, informing the doctor of progress and/or concerns as necessary to coordinate care and facilitate a delivery free of complications.

  • Maintain knowledge and clinical skills to access women and newborns with complications and provide care unit stabilization and transport can be accomplished safely.

  • Provide breastfeeding moms with current information and continuing support to achieve their breastfeeding goals for their newborn’s health & nutrition.

Education:

  • Associate degree in nursing (two-year program) or equivalent formal training program.

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) preferred, not required.

Registered Nurse Experience:

Preferred:

  • One to two years of hospital or OB experience

Required:

  • 6 months of OB experience

Licenses/Certification:

  • Licensed in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse in good standing.

  • BLS within 6 months of hiring.
