We are Looking for:

We are seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Pulmonary & Critical Care team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced Physicians outpatient settings. The NP will play an integral role in the evaluation, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions as well as critically ill patients in the ICU.

Responsibilities:

Perform comprehensive assessments and manage patients with pulmonary conditions such as COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and sleep apnea
Assist with the management of critically ill patients in the ICU, including ventilator management, sedation protocols, and hemodynamic monitoring (training provided)
Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests, including chest X-rays, CT scans, pulmonary function tests, and lab work
Participate in hospital rounds with supervising physicians and coordinate inpatient care plans
Educate patients and families on disease processes, medications, therapies, and preventive measures
Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary in collaboration with the care team
Write prescriptions and coordinate care with specialists and primary care providers as needed
Participate in outpatient follow-up visits and chronic disease management in a clinic setting

Requirements

Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program.
Current approval by the joint Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing to perform medical acts.
Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Texas.
Because of the nature of responsibilities, it is preferable to have experience in counseling and teaching and have a master's degree.

To do this efficiently, care from the cancer pain service starts with a comprehensive assessment, our physicians then create a plan for each patient's needs and condition. Patients are reassessed frequently, allowing physicians to adjust treatment plans as needed. UT MD Anderson has a Per Diem Advanced Practice Provider opportunity in its Pain Medicine department. The ideal candidate must have the degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Key Functions Clinical Duties. Functions as a clinical mid-level provider, as licensed, in proportion appropriate for the Cancer Pain Team. Participate in developing treatment plans with the team physicians. Serves as a liaison between patients and other members of the healthcare team. Participates in the collection of patient data with appropriate documentation in patient records. Performs consultation and follow-up requests from other services in managing pain symptoms; preoperative H & P as required on patients scheduled for pain interventions, including review, and ordering of pertinent lab work and tests; and dictates the summary of evaluation and treatment recommendations. Obtains medical history from patients through structured interviews in accordance with cancer pain service guidelines. Provides discharge instructions and arranges patients' follow-up in the clinic. Provides patient education and information on pain procedures, and reinforces formulated plans to treat pain and associated symptoms. Participates in evaluating patient's needs; identifying complex problems affecting patient/family; and implementing policy and/or procedure changes that will improve treatment outcome and patient/family satisfaction. Coverage of Inpatient & Outpatient services as needed. May provide coverage in the outpatient center for Intrathecal pump refills. Work rotation weekends on inpatient service. EDUCATION: Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. EXPERIENCE: Required: Two years clinical experience as an advanced practice provider. Preferred: Two years clinical experience as an advanced practice provider; pain experience is a plus. Summary The Structural Cardiology Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive care to patients with structural heart disease throughout the continuum of care, including outpatient evaluation, inpatient management, peri-procedural care, and longitudinal follow-up. Job Duties Outpatient Responsibilities: Perform comprehensive cardiovascular histories and physical examinations. Evaluate patients referred for structural heart interventions, including valvular heart disease and congenital structural abnormalities. Assess candidacy for procedures such as: Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER/MitraClip) Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (Watchman) Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) closure Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) closure Balloon valvuloplasty and other transcatheter therapies Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the structural heart team. Optimize medical therapy before and after procedures. Manage cardiovascular medications, including anticoagulation, antiplatelet therapy, heart failure medications, antihypertensives, and lipid-lowering therapies. Interpret laboratory and diagnostic results to guide clinical decision-making. Inpatient Responsibilities: Conduct daily rounds on hospitalized structural heart patients. Monitor patients before and after structural heart interventions. Assess and manage acute cardiovascular issues, including heart failure, arrhythmias, vascular complications, and hemodynamic instability. Coordinate consultations with cardiac surgery, electrophysiology, heart failure, anesthesia, and other specialties. Facilitate discharge planning and ensure smooth transitions of care. Peri-Procedural Responsibilities: Complete pre-procedure assessments and informed consent discussions as appropriate. Review diagnostic imaging and testing to confirm procedural readiness. Participate in multidisciplinary Heart Team conferences. Provide peri-procedural management in collaboration with physicians and procedural staff. Evaluate access sites and monitor for procedural complications. Manage post-procedure recovery, including pain control, rhythm monitoring, anticoagulation, and discharge readiness. Recognize and manage procedural complications such as bleeding, vascular injury, conduction abnormalities, stroke, infection, and heart failure exacerbation. Initiate timely interventions or escalation of care when clinically indicated.
