Position Details:

  • Shift:  FT Days
  • Hours:  12 hour shifts (7am-7pm)

Job Summary:

  • Performs various direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Assists patients in dressing or undressing, bathing, or eating.
  • Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens or gathers vital signs but does not start or administer intravenous fluids.
  • Aids physicians and nursing staff members with procedures if needed.
  • Documents patient interactions as needed.
  • Will cross train to telemetry clerk. 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • No experience necessary.
  • Certification from an accredited nursing assistant program.

How you make a difference The Certified Nursing Assistant performs basic and specialized nursing care functions under the supervision of licensed nurses. They adhere to local and regulatory policies and procedures to ensure proper patient care. The Nursing Assistant collaborates with other healthcare team members and correctional officers to plan and implement patient care activities in a correctional setting. After a general orientation to medical-surgical and psychiatric patient care areas, they may also float between units to ensure adequate nursing staff for patient care areas. Key Responsibilities Provides basic nursing care to patients under the direction of a licensed nurse, including assistance with ADLs, vital sign measurement, and accurate documentation of patient data. Maintains professional behavior and prioritizes work flow to ensure completion of all assigned duties, while adhering to policies and procedures and promoting patient safety and confidentiality. Collaborates with other members of the health care team, participates in staff meetings and training sessions, and notifies the licensed nurse of any patient concerns or issues. Demonstrates basic knowledge of nursing procedures and proficiently uses medical supplies and equipment, while also ensuring their proper storage and cleaning. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising nurse, such as assisting with patient care in different units and participating in the orientation of new staff members.
