Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary health care teams to maintain the standards of professional nursing practices in a clinical setting
Collect comprehensive data on patients’ health (from patients and/or family members); Analyze data to determine needs & develop individualized care plans; update care plans based on progression and pathway as well as manage care delivery
Ensure that all physician orders are carried out appropriately and timely; work collaboratively with ancillary staff.
Integrate patient care standards in all clinical activities; participate in performance improvement activities to improve patient safety, quality of care and patient outcomes
Maintain sensitivity and awareness of cultural and religious diversity when addressing patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers
Promote a supportive and team-oriented environment
Support departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range strategic plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital

Minimum Requirements

BSN from an accredited school of nursing required
1+ years’ of operating room experience, preferable in orthopedics
NJ RN license and registration required
BLS certification required

HCAHPS/EPIC knowledge preferred

The Hospital for Special Surgery Perioperative Nurse Fellowship Program is for experienced nurses transitioning to practice as the operating room RN. The Hospital for Special Surgery Peri-Operative Nurse Fellowship Program was awarded Accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s for the Practice Transitions Program (PTAP). The program utilizes evidence-based practices to best onboard new-to-the-operating room RNs into the organization. The program runs for twelve months in length and includes a course designed by the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN), called Periop 101. Fellows also train in a mock Operating Room using simulation to build core skills. Clinical orientation lasts six months and adjusts to each learner’s needs. Fellows rotate through all orthopedic subspecialties and learn both scrub and circulating roles. The goal is full clinical competency across the patient population. The Perioperative Clinical Education Specialists and the Fellowship Program Coordinator oversee the clinical orientation process. Frequent check-ins with the fellow, preceptor, clinical education specialists serve to evaluate effective transition and progress throughout the program. RNs that are hired into the cohort are required to meet throughout the year long program. Each meeting will include 1) knowledge building educational component, 2) “shared experience” component and 3) mentorship component, 4) wellness component, 5) assignments and/or project component. Regularly scheduled meetings provide a supportive environment, which allows RNs to gain confidence in their abilities to cope with the day-to-day challenges of their transition to perioperative nursing practice, and are a requirement of the program. What you will be doing Administrative Nursing Supervisor Per Diem Non-Exempt Weekend Rotation Overview: The practice of the profession of nursing as a registered professional nurse is defined in New York State as diagnosing and treating human responses to actual or potential health problems through case finding, health teaching, health counseling, and provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being, and executing medical regimens prescribed by a licensed practitioner. The HSS Registered Nurse provides and ensures comprehensive nursing care to patients/families, using the nursing process and appropriate standards of care in accordance with the philosophy of Hospital for Special Surgery, the Division of Nursing, the ANA Code of Ethics and regulatory bodies. The Administrative Nursing Coordinator serves as a liaison between hospital administration, nursing leadership and management and the clinical teams. Additionally, they provide managerial support and oversight to the nursing units ensuring that day-to-day operational standards are met. This includes but is not limited to identifying patient service requirements, ensuring safe and fiscally responsible unit staffing, maintaining the efficient delivery of services and safe patient outcomes and the adherence to established hospital policies and procedures.
