Position Details:

Self/preferential scheduling posted four weeks in advance for you to have predictability in your schedule

Rounding with unit leaders, including charge nurses, to ensure your voice is heard on suggestions for patient care and surgical workflow improvement

What you will do in this role:

Evaluate patients prior to surgery
Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process
Assume responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification
Participate in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols, according to hospital policy
Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while managing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives
Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team – consisting of the provider(s), surgeons, surgical technologists and more
Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care to patients
Assess patient condition, monitor throughout your shift, and document changes in patient condition along with the care provided thoroughly
Educate patients and families/caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment and follow-up measures

Able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. Assessment and reassessment of the patient is clearly and concisely communicated in charting and assure documentation meets current standards, policies and procedures and is completed within shift. Demonstrates competence in preparing and cleaning of OR suites before and between cases and after terminal cleaning, based on patients infection class. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of location, care and operation of all surgical equipment, is able to direct and assist in maintenance and handling of special equipment and instruments. Carries out established techniques for safe administration of medications and parenteral fluids, as per hospital policies and procedures. Preps patient, positions patients safely, pads and protects bony prominences and assure is draped according to procedure Carries out medical and surgical asepsis during all procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions and side effects. Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Effectively communicates with the physician in accounting for all sponges, needles and instruments during and after the procedure and documents in the appropriate area. Is able to open sterile supplies and set up for procedure. Gives thorough report of patient’s intraoperative condition to PACU nurse. Other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned.
