RN Infusion Full-time

Job Summary:

The RN is an essential member of the Patient Care Team who is responsible for the delivery of direct and indirect patient care through the nursing process in all areas of the unit. The RN delegates those interventions that may be performed by others, supervises as appropriate, assists in maintaining a safe environment for the rendering of effective nursing care, provides education to patients, and families, and collaborates with other health professionals in the planning and management of health care.

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Renders professional nursing care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital and carries out orders placed by the provider responsible for the patient’s medical care. Provides comprehensive clinical documentation including care plans each shift.
  • Seeks feedback regarding practice and takes actions as appropriate.
  • Communicates patient information appropriate for continuity and safe care through Bedside shift reports, Multidisciplinary rounds, and Hourly Rounding (AIDET)
  • Compliant in achieving unit-specific competencies and requirements.
  • Documentation reflects the changes in patient condition, care given and response to care given. It should demonstrate an awareness of the responsibility of medical/legal implications through content and legibility requirements as needed.
  • Documents on admission assessment, nursing care plan, flow sheets, medication administration record, and nurses' notes all pertinent information, in a manner that is concise, thorough, legible, and accurately reflects patient condition, care provided, response to care and conforms to SMRMC charting.
  • Assists others in developing accurate and thorough documentation skills.
  • Completes all HealthStream modules within the timeframe identified.
  • Promotes a positive culture/atmosphere within the department each shift.
  • Provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff by following established procedures and protocols.
  • Identifies and assists in the correction of patient care safety issues.
  • Works within the guidelines of Just Culture Environment to promote error reporting and the adoption of safe practices.
  • Assures issues are addressed through appropriate use of the chain of command.
  • Participates in daily unit-based safety huddles.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the organization's overall strategic plan.
  • Remains up to date with unit-based nurse-sensitive indicators (such as CAUTI, CLABSI, CDIFF, HAPU, FALLS, HH and VAE).
  • Actively participates in quality initiatives and performance improvement to improve patient outcomes.
  • Collaborates with nurses in other departments/units to draw upon expertise in other clinical areas/specialties.
  • Seeks opportunities to assist all team members.
  • Develop and implement performance goals based on self-assessment and performance feedback.
  • Assures patient education materials are culturally competent.
  • Serves as “charge nurse” - makes out assignments appropriate to skill level, delegates effectively, oversees care by all staff, and is a resource person to staff.
  • Serves as a preceptor for new nurses.
  • Participates in DNV survey readiness.
  • Demonstrates practice that is consistent with the tenets of shared governance and with the philosophy of the unit and the organization.
  • Assists with solution identification in response to problems and conflicts.
  • Effectively delegates aspects of care and unit activities to other nursing personnel.
  • Collaborates in planning, supervising, and instructing other nurses and assistants.
  • Works collaboratively with nursing students and instructors.
  • Participates in peer feedback process of annual reviews.
  • Participates in the employee engagement survey.
  • Demonstrates characteristics of the SPIRIT of St Mary’s Regional Medical Center with a commitment to my co-workers and holds peers accountable for the same.
  • Avoids use of unauthorized overtime
  • Manages use of ETO (Earned Time Off) per policy.
  • Completes dysrhythmia course prior to completion of orientation.
  • Maintains current nursing licensure and certifications, required for the department.
  • Ortho Department - Will work with surgical patients who have had joint replacements and abide by the standards of care set forth by St. Mary's Hip & Knee Replacement Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Float Pool RN – Reports for assignment and proceeds to any department that the Director/Manager/Nursing Supervisor assigns, without delay.
  • Maintains required licenses, certifications, and competencies, and completes annual compliance courses on time.
  • May be asked to float to other departments.
  • Supporting student learning is a shared responsibility. Every team member is expected to contribute to creating a welcoming environment and to actively assist students in their educational experience, regardless of their specific role.
  • Other duties as consistent with this role.

Job Requirements

Job Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic Dysrhythmia preferred or obtained before completion of orientation.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred or obtained before completion of orientation.
  • Temporary/Agency staff - CPI is preferred at the time of hire or obtained onsite at the first opportunity, preferably within 2 weeks of start.
  • The ability to speak, read, write, and understand written instructions in English is required.

Education and Experience

  • Current Maine RN license required.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Graduate of an approved Nursing program required.
