Overview

The Clinic Head Nurse is accountable for the effective supervision and clinical leadership of a nursing unit in accordance with the Clinic philosophy, policies, procedures, plans and organization.

Responsibilities

Performs clinical nursing procedures including starting IV's, administering chemotherapy, performing electrocardiographs, and EKG's, assuring drug cart is stocked properly.

Assist physician with various clinical procedures.

Assumes duties of LPN as required.

Accepts telephone calls from patients and their families and counsels them concerning their illness, condition, and medicine.

Provides patient education as required.

Assures that patient forms are completed and that insurance coverage is verified and that Medicaid will pay for prescription medicines.

Secures pre-authorization prior to physician admitting patient to hospital, observation unit, and outpatient surgery to assure proper payment is received.

Schedules patients for surgery at various ARH hospitals and assures that pre-operation work-up is completed.

Interviews, selects, develops, promotes, transfers, disciplines and terminates personnel under his/her supervision or recommends such action.

Develops work schedules and assignments on basis of patient needs, and assures adequate staff is available to assist physicians.

Develops and maintains safety plans for employees and patients including fire drills and bomb threats and implements OSHA plans.Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

RN preferred, LPN required. Minimum of 2 years experience in nursing supervision. Demonstrated management and clerical skills.

Overview The Head Nurse Manager is accountable for the supervision of nursing services within an assigned unit in order to provide safe, effective and efficient nursing care.
