POSITION SUMMARY: Works under the direction of a licensed nurse to assist in meeting the physical and psychosocial needs of patients in a professional and timely manner. Performs various tasks as competency documentation designates. Position provides direct care with limited invasive procedures. PCT is responsible for the safety of an assigned unit by conducting visual observations of patients, collect and record vital signs/symptoms properly, reporting abnormalities, appropriate and timely documentation of findings, and employ appropriate crisis techniques as needed. The PCT may assist patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living with Registered Nurse oversight. May perform limited patient registration functions, including quick registration for ED patients, to support timely patient throughput as needed. Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Reading and numerical competency. Must possess competency in use of technology and computers.
  • Previous care giving experience preferred. Must have the ability to demonstrate basic care giving skills and essential job functions.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course according to RQI program guidelines and all required Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Healthcare Provider courses will be provided during new hire orientation or upon transfer, and must be completed prior to working in a clinical setting. Must successfully complete "Handle with Care" within 6 months of hire/transfer, and annually thereafter.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department and reports patient welfare, safety and security to RN.
