Responsibilities
Patient Care & Advocacy
- Facilitate, implement, and evaluate individualized Patient Plans of Care and corresponding outcomes.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to support positive patient results and ensure continuity of care.
- Serve as a strong patient advocate, promoting safety, dignity, and well‑being.
Clinical & Technical Competence
- Deliver timely and effective nursing interventions based on patient needs.
- Demonstrate strong clinical skills and technical proficiency in all aspects of patient care.
- Utilize sound clinical judgment to assess, analyze, and communicate patient information promptly.
Documentation & Communication
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and provider communications in real time.
- Perform ongoing review, initiation, and implementation of provider orders each shift.
Patient Safety & Risk Assessment
- Identify patient safety risk factors, including fall risk, skin integrity concerns, and the need for restraints.
- Implement appropriate safety interventions promptly and consistently.
- Follow medication safety policies and complete all required Safety Tracking Tools.
Delegation & Team Leadership
- Delegate tasks appropriately and supervise assigned staff to ensure high‑quality patient care.
- Take responsibility for all care provided to assigned patients.
- Report performance concerns to maintain a safe, supportive, and effective care environment.
Patient & Family Education
- Assess educational needs of patients and families, providing clear written and verbal instructions.
- Document all education delivered and evaluate understanding as appropriate.
Prioritization & Critical Thinking
- Prioritize tasks efficiently based on urgency, patient acuity, and available resources.
- Demonstrate independent problem‑solving skills, multitasking ability, and effective time management.
Professional Accountability & Development
- Proactively seek opportunities to expand clinical knowledge and experience.
- Support team members, willingly accept additional duties, and complete required education and competencies on time.
- Participate in unit‑based councils, performance improvement activities, and initiatives that enhance patient care and unit operations.
- Identify unit needs and contribute to meaningful solutions
Qualifications
- 2 years nursing experience caring for Step Down level of care patients including cardiothoracic surgery patients, preferred.
- EPIC preferred
Credentials
- RN - Registered Nurse
- BLS - Basic Life Saving certification
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- NIH - Stroke Certification
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
