DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The PACU RN position includes bedside RNs in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at St. Charles Health System. This department provides specialized care to patients during the post-procedural experience.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The RN provides quality patient and family centered care as a member of the health care team in accordance with SCHS mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures. Applies standards for professional nursing practice and focuses clinical care to enhance the experience for patients, families, and all others. As a nurse, this position will oversee the work of other caregivers, providing specific care to assigned patient(s) throughout the shift, as required under the scope of the RN licensure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Maintains and demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques and applies this knowledge in accordance with St. Charles Health System policies and procedures and within laws and regulations governing nursing practice in the State of Oregon.

                                                       

Assesses the patient’s condition and needs using critical thinking and clinical judgment; sets outcomes; implements appropriate nursing actions and collaborates with other disciplines to meet the patient’s/family’s physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and intellectual needs; and evaluates patient’s progress.

Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately in accordance with St. Charles Health System policies and procedures for medication administration.

Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies, procedures and regulatory agencies. 

Demonstrates awareness of and supports St. Charles departmental and operating unit goals through participation in continuous quality improvement and departmental activities.

Participates in activities that promote professional growth and development of self and others.

Communicates (both written and orally) effectively and maintains professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients, and guests.

Identifies work-related problems with possible solutions and implements solution(s) within scope of practice, as appropriate.

Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.

Supports Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.

EDUCATION:

Required: Current Oregon RN license. AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS. PALS.
Preferred: Department specific acute care certification. (i.e. CNOR, CAPA, CPAN)

EXPERIENCE:

POST ANESTHESIA CARE UNIT (PACU or ICU, or ED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED):
Required:
Two (2) years of PACU experience with ICU level recovery, within the past 5 years, or two (2) years of ICU or ED experience in a Level 2 Trauma Center or higher within the past 5 years.

Preferred: Five (5) years of PACU in a Level 2 Trauma Center with ICU level recovery.

POST ANESTHESIA CARE UNIT (CRITICAL CARE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED):
Required:
One (1) year of experience in a Critical Care unit, such as ICU, Step Down, ED, within the last 5 years.

Preferred: One (1) year recent experience in a procedural care area recovering patients, Two (2) years PACU experience in a Level 2 Trauma Center with ICU level recovery, within the last 5 years.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent SCHS.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Registered Nurse – Urgent Care provides quality patient and family centered care as a member of the health care team in accordance with St. Charles Health System mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures. Applies standards for professional nursing practice and focuses clinical care to enhance the experience for patients, families, and all others. This position does not directly supervise any caregivers. LOCATION: If mutually agreeable, nurses may work at multiple clinic locations at the request of leadership to fulfill short term, immediate staffing needs. Relief nurses, however, will be required to work at multiple clinic locations at the request of leadership. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Functions as staff nurse during regularly scheduled shifts. Maintains flexibility and readiness to work in multiple clinic locations either at the request of, or in mutual agreement with, leadership. Assists leadership with quality control for point-of-care tests performed on-site. Performs point-of-care lab tests in accordance with lab protocol. Assists leadership with ordering and maintaining daily inventory of supplies and pharmaceuticals. Maintains and demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques, and applies this knowledge in accordance with St. Charles Health System policies and work instructions and within the laws and regulations governing nursing practice in the State of Oregon. Assesses the patient’s condition and needs using critical thinking and clinical judgment: set outcomes; implements appropriate nursing actions and collaborates with other disciplines to meet the patient’s/family’s physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and intellectual needs; and evaluates patient’s progress.
