This site is a dynamic, community-based multispecialty practice dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. This site brings together a collaborative team of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and support staff offering a broad range of services, including primary care, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, pulmonology, rheumatology, and additional specialty care. With a strong connection to the world-class resources of Mass General Brigham, the Newburyport practice combines the feel of a local community clinic with the clinical excellence, innovation, and support of a leading academic healthcare system.

We are seeking a full-time 40-hr Medical Assistant to support multiple specialties at our practice! This Medical Assistant will primarily support Internal Medicine, but will also float to Cardiology, Endocrinology, and Nephrology. The desired schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm.

Job Summary

Summary
The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

-Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
-Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
-Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
-Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
-Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
-Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
-Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
-Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization as required. Ensure exam rooms are cleaned and stocked. Following standard work procedures and messaging policy, respond to the patient phone portal message on the same day. Use standing protocols to complete pre-visit work, close gaps in care, administrate vaccines, and complete prescription refills. May schedule preâ€‘admission and diagnostic testing and place follow-up calls to patients after surgery. May perform any of the following daily administrative duties of the practice: greeting/check-in/check-out, scheduling patients, answering telephones, taking messages, organizing patient charts, filing, pulling and copying patient records, collection of co-pays and patient balances, post-payment and adjustment transactions, and balance daily journal. Maintains and adheres to established Core Physicians policies and procedures and federal regulations, including, patient confidentiality, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards; responsible for participating in the daily huddle and completing any actions required and working as a member of the care team to ensure proper communication between all team members. In some practices, the MA may perform scribing duties; accompany the provider into the patient examination room and accurately and efficiently document the encounter; order any labs, make referrals, and order prescriptions that have been recommended by the provider. Responsible for monitoring care team metrics to evaluate improvement metrics and outcome. Provides coverage for other Core Offices as needed, based on priorities, and performs other duties as assigned.
