Summary
The Registered Nurse Emeritus improves clinical practice through mentorship and coaching while coordinating with an assigned nurse during the provision of direct patient care. The nurse demonstrates advanced skills and expertise to the nurses and other members of the health care delivery team. The nurse complies with standards of regulatory and accreditation bodies.
Job Duties
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Mentors and coaches peer RN using their advanced skills and expertise while supporting the RN in their role.
- Assists with Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and if necessary, delegating patient care for a specified group of patients.
- Collaborates with physicians, medical professionals and other staff to ensure the quality of care.
- Provides collaboration for care for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult or geriatric patient.
- Utilizes knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient’s age to ensure that care provided meets the unique physical and psychosocial needs of the patient.
- Advises when needed Involves appropriate parties (i.e., patient’s family or guardian, outside agencies) in the assessment, treatment and continuing care of the patient as needed.
- The Emeritus Nurse, with leadership experience, will mentor new nurse leaders. Emeritus Nurses mentoring in nursing leadership and management can be described simply as leaders developing leaders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with successful completion of a nursing program from an accredited school of nursing.
- Effective Communications Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques, ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Patient Assessment and Care Knowledge of and ability to assess ailments and injuries of patients and implement a treatment plan.
- Patient and Care Giver Education Knowledge of child and adult education techniques and the ability to educate patients and their care givers on the patient's condition, the treatment and medications suggested and given, and the next steps in the patient's recovery.
- Medication Administration and Prescription- Knowledge of various medications used to treat patients, ability to apply this knowledge to the administration of medications and to the prescription of drugs for continuing treatment outside of the hospital.
- Discharge Planning Knowledge of the patient's post-discharge needs and the ability to consider these needs in planning for discharge and arranging for follow-up care.
- Assessment and Diagnosis Knowledge of various tools and techniques for patient assessment and diagnosis, ability to explore and analyze reasons behind symptoms and generate resolutions according to available drugs, facilities and techniques.
- Health Information Documentation Support the nurse to document relevant health information and appropriate documentation methods, ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
- BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association or Red Cross
- RN - Licensed Registered Nurse_NJ - State of New Jersey
Additional Qualifications
This position is for retired nurses and requires at least 5 years RN experience required.
Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.

Salary Range
$37.65 to $53.67 Hourly
The actual hiring rate will be determined based on candidate experience, skills and qualifications. This position is not eligible for an annual incentive.
