RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities:

Accurately following the resident MAR to ensure that medications are given out according to the Physician’s orders.
Understand and follow the “Six rights of medication administration” and all of Bickford’s policies and procedures regarding medication management.
Understand and appropriately utilize the eMAR system for medication administration.
Communicate appropriately with clinical leadership for clarification and direction regarding resident medication administration and care.
Providing direct resident care Supervision of resident care work of non-licensed team members and other areas of the branch as appropriate.
You will be a leader in demonstrating the Bickford Mission ‘Whatever it Takes’ to all other team members on shift.

Qualifications:

An active Medication Technician Certification in good standing or at least one year of experience in the care of seniors.
High School Diploma or GED.
Willing to take additional training or education, which specific states may require.
CPR and First Aid certifications are required.
Ability to handle multiple priorities.
Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication.
Competent in organizational and time management skills.
Demonstrates good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Ability to utilize or learn Bickford’s eMAR system to administer medications.

Certified Medication Aide CMA - Shift Supervisor Position Summary: Lead shift and team members in coordination with Director of Health and Wellness, ADON, and RCC. Administer oral and topical medications to residents. This individual must perform these tasks as ordered by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, and in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations. Also, must perform routine daily tasks required in maintaining the health, comfort and wellbeing of the residents. Certified Medication Aide CMA - Essential Responsibilities: Administers medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with community policy. Serve as Lead in community representing Leadership Team during shift in coordination with management. Must demonstrate knowledge of “five rights” of medication administration. Administers and records all medication given to residents’ based upon their specific chart. May take and record vital signs of residents as assigned or as may be required by certain medications. Certified Medication Aide CMA records the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately, utilizing the computer system to enter and reference resident information as needed. Observes and reports any reactions and/or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse immediately. Administers PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy. Ensure antiseptic techniques and good hand washing practices for infection control, as well as utilizing universal precautions are in place and practiced. Certified Medication Aide CMA reports and when appropriate, records any changes observed in condition or behavior of residents and unusual incidents. Submit incident/accident reports to supervisor or Administrator within twentyfour (24) hours after their occurrence. Communicates with medical staff, nursing service and other department supervisors. Certified Medication Aide CMA supervises care staff in absence of nurses. Maintains, cleans and organizes the Medication Room. Maintains a liaison with other department supervisors to adequately plan for resident activities. Attends all required training, in-service and staff meetings May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals. May be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc, including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. Maintain resident confidentiality, staff confidentiality; treat staff and residents with kindness, dignity and respect. Comply with Resident’s Rights rules. Certified Medication Aide CMA - Requirements: A High School Diploma or General Education Degree; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
