CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) Responsibilities

  • Gives direct care as assigned, i.e. bath, shower, oral hygiene, giving and removing bedpans/urinals, personal grooming, and all other hygienic needs.
  • Cleans and cares for bedside equipment and the resident's environment, occupied and unoccupied beds, bedside tables, dresser, residents' clothing and personal belongings.
  • Practices safety rules at all times to prevent accidents.
  • Assist the nurse to maintain continuous observation of and provide assistance to residents.
  • Conduct resident care rounds, visiting each resident at least every one to two hours
  • Prepare residents for meals, assist or feeds residents as needed.
  • Completes all documentation before the end of shift.
  • Establishes and maintains a rapport with residents, families, visitors and all levels of staff.

CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must have a valid CNA (Certified Nursing Assitant) certification for state of Florida or passed a certified CNA (Certified Nursing Assitant) progam and awaiting examination
  • Experience with long-term care and/or geriatric care is preferred but not limited to.
  • Well versed with documentation writing
  • Document patient’s progress on weekly progress note in a timely fashion.
  • Collaborates with all disciplines to provide best patient centered treatment and care.
  • Exceptional patient service skills and ability to demonstrate clinical excellence
  • Report to work on time, adhere to scheduled hours and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
  • Compliance with confidentiality, HIPPA and Federal Residents Rights.

After surgery, patients are taken to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), otherwise known as the recovery room. There, patients are monitored closely as their anesthesia wears off. During this time, nursing caregivers check and monitor heart rhythm, blood pressure, temperature, pulse and breathing. They will also inquire about patients’ level of pain and provide medications as necessary. As a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) on this team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment for patients. A caregiver in this role works evenings from 1:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m., and is required to work on-call rotations, typically 5 to 6 times per month with some flexibility, including coverage on holidays, weekends, and weeknights. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Assist nursing caregivers, promote patient comfort and carry out nursing orders. Transport patients by wheelchair, bed or stretcher from the department/unit. Conduct EKG and phlebotomy duties. Attend to patient and family needs and problems. Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing, toileting and hygiene. Respond to call lights within five minutes or communicate inability to do so. Report patient needs to an RN/LPN immediately. Assist in the removal of equipment (I.e. IV pumps, commodes, PAS) in preparation for room cleaning. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: High School Diploma or GED Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within new hire period Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross prior to hire Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Graduate of an approved program for nursing assistants or previous hospital training Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Six months of experience in an acute care hospital setting Physical Requirements: The position requires a considerate amount of physical work not to exceed 50 pounds. Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance. The individual will be required to pull up or reposition patients in bed, lift supplies, place equipment or supports, and push beds throughout the hospital. The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties such as check chest tube drainage, check urine output, etc. The individual must be able to quickly maneuver throughout halls, stairways and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety. Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department director, physicians and other members of the Healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers. Special Demands: Essential Sensory requirement - ability to visually assess patients and implement plan of care. Essential Technical/Motor Skill - finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination are necessary when charting, using equipment, and providing direct patient care.
