Job Summary
As an Director of Nursing, DON, RN, you will play a vital role in promoting and restoring patients' health. Your responsibilities include completing the nursing process, collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members, and providing physical and psychological support to patients, families, and friends. In this role, you will also supervise assigned team members and ensure accurate transcription and notification of new physician orders.

Duties and Responsibilities
As a Director of Nursing, DON, RN , your responsibilities include:
· Clinical Leadership: Overseeing nursing operations, developing care plans, and ensuring adherence to clinical standards of practice.
· Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring the facility meets all state, federal, and local regulations and standards.
· Staff Management: Hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs).
· Quality Assurance: Implementing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives to improve resident care.
· Administrative Duties: Managing budgets, maintaining records, and managing inventory.
· Communication: Acting as a liaison between residents, families, physicians, and administration.
· Clinical Oversight: Supervising the Minimum Data Set (MDS) process and care plan implementation
- Identifying patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and their support systems.
- Fostering a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their families.
- Ensuring quality of care by:
Ø Adhering to therapeutic standards.
Ø Measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards.
Ø Making or recommending necessary adjustments.
Ø Following facility and nursing department's philosophies and standards of care.
- Resolving patient problems and needs using multidisciplinary team strategies.
Ø Maintaining a safe and clean working environment by:
Ø Complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protecting patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies, medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
- Assisting nurses working with medication carts and on the unit with documentation, organization, and overall supervision.
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
To excel as an Director of Nursing, DON, RN, you will need:
Required Qualifications:
· Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).
· Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
Skills:
· Strong Leadership skills
· Strong verbal communication and listening skills with the ability to work effectively in a medical team and to conduct Nursing and Inter-disciplinary team meetings
· Multi-tasking and problem-solving abilities.
· Ability to conduct audits of resident records and care plans
· Strong Investigation skills for completing complaints and incidents
· Strong knowledge of maintaining adequate staffing levels and maintaining budgetary requirements
