Helping Hearts USA LLC is seeking a professional, dependable, well-groomed, and experienced male caregiver for a client-specific overnight case. This position is ideal for someone who is calm, patient, attentive, and confident supporting clients with dementia or Alzheimer’s-related needs during overnight hours.

This is a non-medical in-home caregiving role focused on safety supervision, personal care, companionship, emotional reassurance, and maintaining a calm overnight environment.

 

Client Preferences

  • Musical background strongly preferred

  • Singing, choir, band, instrument experience, or comfort using music to create a calm environment is a major plus

  • Dementia or Alzheimer’s care experience preferred

 

Position Summary

As an overnight caregiver, you will help ensure the client remains safe, calm, comfortable, and supported throughout the night. You must remain alert during the full shift, provide respectful hands-on support as needed, use dementia-friendly communication techniques, and report any changes appropriately.

 

The ideal candidate will be able to manage:

Key Responsibilities

Overnight Safety Supervision

  • Remain awake, alert, and attentive throughout the entire shift

  • Monitor for fall risks, wandering, or unsafe behaviors

  • Maintain a safe and organized environment

  • Respond promptly to nighttime wake-ups, confusion, or restlessness

  • Provide reassurance and redirection as needed

Dementia and Alzheimer’s Support

  • Use calm, respectful, and simple communication

  • Redirect gently during episodes of confusion or anxiety

  • Support bedtime and overnight routines

  • Help reduce agitation and distress using de-escalation techniques

  • Provide a steady, reassuring presence throughout the night

Personal Care Assistance

  • Assist with toileting and incontinence care as needed

  • Support dressing, undressing, grooming, and hygiene routines

  • Assist with repositioning, transfers, and mobility

  • Protect the client’s dignity, privacy, and independence at all times

Companionship and Emotional Support

  • Offer calm companionship and emotional reassurance

  • Engage the client respectfully if awake during the night

  • Help reduce fear, agitation, or isolation through patient support

Music-Supported Care

  • Use soft, familiar, calming music when appropriate

  • Support relaxation during bedtime or anxious moments

  • Engage in simple music-based interaction if welcomed by the client

  • Maintain appropriate volume and timing to promote comfort and rest

Meal, Snack, and Hydration Support

  • Prepare light snacks if appropriate

  • Encourage hydration according to the care plan

  • Report appetite changes or swallowing concerns

Light Housekeeping Related to Care

  • Keep the client’s immediate environment clean, calm, and safe

  • Complete light laundry related to the client’s care

  • Clean up after snacks or personal care tasks

Documentation and Communication

  • Document overnight observations clearly and accurately

  • Report changes in mood, mobility, sleep, confusion, appetite, or safety risks

  • Communicate concerns promptly according to company protocol

  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries

Transportation

  • Only if assigned and approved within the care plan

  • Must have valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of caregiving experience

  • Experience in home care, assisted living, memory care, or a related setting

  • Ability to provide personal care confidently and respectfully

  • Excellent attendance and punctuality

  • Calm demeanor, patience, and sound judgment

  • Professional appearance and excellent hygiene

  • Reliable transportation

  • Ability to follow directions, care plans, and documentation procedures

  • Must complete all onboarding requirements

Strongly Preferred

  • Dementia and Alzheimer’s care experience

  • Experience with sundowning, nighttime agitation, and redirection

  • Musical background or comfort using music therapeutically

  • Experience supporting clients with specialized overnight routines

This client requires full assistance with activities of daily living, including hands-on transfer assistance, and is considered a significant fall risk. We need a caregiver who understands that fall prevention requires constant awareness, close supervision, careful assistance, and proactive safety measures throughout the entire shift. The selected caregiver must be available to work all three scheduled days Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Consistent attendance is essential because the client depends on a stable routine and familiar caregivers. The client also has a small dog in the home. Applicants must be comfortable entering and working in a home with a small household pet. At Helping Hearts, caregiving is more than a job, it is a calling. We are looking for someone who will treat the client with dignity, patience, compassion, and respect while remaining actively engaged and focused on the client’s safety. Primary Responsibilities Full Assistance with Activities of Daily Living The caregiver will provide respectful, hands-on assistance with the client’s daily personal-care needs as outlined in the client’s care plan. During every transfer, the caregiver must: Explain the transfer process to the client Make sure the client is positioned correctly Properly position the wheelchair or commode Lock the wheelchair brakes before beginning Move footrests, cords, furniture, and other obstacles out of the way Clear and inspect the transfer area Use proper body mechanics Use approved transfer equipment when required Closely monitor the client’s balance and comfort Move slowly and avoid rushing or pulling the client Stop immediately if the transfer becomes unsafe Transfers must never be rushed or attempted in an unsafe manner. The caregiver must follow the client’s care plan and use any required gait belt, Hoyer lift, sit-to-stand lift, or other approved transfer device only after receiving proper training and authorization. If a transfer requires two caregivers or cannot be completed safely, the caregiver must not attempt it alone. The caregiver must keep the client safe and contact the Helping Hearts office immediately for assistance and further direction. Applicants must be able to perform the essential transfer responsibilities of this position safely and consistently, with or without reasonable accommodation. Proactive Fall Prevention and Safety Monitoring Because this client is at significant risk for falls, the caregiver must remain alert, attentive, engaged, and safety-focused throughout the entire shift. This is not a passive companion assignment or a position where the caregiver can sit nearby without actively observing and assisting the client. The caregiver will be expected to: Remain aware of the client’s location, mobility, and immediate needs Provide close supervision during standing, walking, toileting, and transfers Stay within a safe assisting distance whenever the client is moving Encourage the client to request assistance before attempting to stand or transfer Maintain a clear and hazard-free environment Check for spills, cords, loose rugs, clutter, poor lighting, and unsafe furniture placement Make sure mobility devices are properly positioned and within reach Make sure the client has appropriate footwear during mobility Keep commonly used items safely within the client’s reach Remain especially attentive when the client is tired, weak, distracted, or attempting to toilet Never leave the client unattended during a task when supervision is required Avoid personal-phone use or other distractions that interfere with active supervision Immediately report changes in mobility, balance, strength, or transfer ability Immediately report every fall, near fall, injury, or safety concern Complete all required incident documentation accurately and promptly The caregiver must never attempt an unsafe lift or transfer. If the client cannot be moved safely according to the care plan, the caregiver must protect the client from further injury and contact the Helping Hearts office immediately for direction. Active Engagement and Companionship The client needs a caregiver who will be present, attentive, conversational, and genuinely engaged. Meaningful companionship is an important part of this assignment. The caregiver should: Initiate friendly and appropriate conversations Offer reassurance, encouragement, and emotional support Participate in activities the client enjoys Help maintain a calm, positive, and familiar daily routine Recognize when the client may be lonely, anxious, uncomfortable, or withdrawn Encourage safe participation in daily activities whenever appropriate Respect the client’s choices, preferences, personal space, and independence Remain patient if the client needs additional time, repetition, or reassurance Provide companionship without becoming distracted by a personal phone, television, or unrelated activities We are looking for someone who understands that quality caregiving includes both physical assistance and meaningful human connection. Meal Preparation, Snacks, and Hydration Depending on the client’s care plan and preferences, responsibilities may include: Preparing simple meals and snacks Encouraging appropriate food and fluid intake Providing hydration reminders Assisting with meals when required Cleaning food-preparation areas after use Washing dishes and returning items to their proper locations Observing and reporting appetite changes, swallowing concerns, nausea, or refusal of food or fluids Following all dietary instructions listed in the client’s care plan Attention to cleanliness, nutrition, hydration, and the client’s comfort is essential. Observe, Document, and Report Changes The caregiver must closely observe the client’s overall condition and promptly report concerns to Helping Hearts. This includes changes involving: Mobility, balance, or transfer ability Physical strength or coordination Skin condition, bruising, redness, swelling, or pain Appetite or fluid intake Toileting patterns Mood, behavior, or cognition Alertness, confusion, agitation, or unusual behavior Breathing, comfort, or general condition The safety or cleanliness of the home Supplies that are low or unavailable Any fall, near fall, injury, or other incident Caregivers must complete accurate shift documentation, electronic visit verification, and required care notes through the company’s approved system. Concerns must be reported immediately. Caregivers must not wait until the end of the shift to report an urgent change, fall, near fall, injury, or safety concern. Small Dog in the Home The client has a small dog. Applicants must: Be comfortable entering and working in a home with a small dog Remain aware of the dog’s location when the client is walking or transferring Help prevent the dog, toys, food bowls, or leashes from becoming fall hazards Follow the client’s instructions regarding appropriate interaction with the dog Never allow the pet to interfere with the client’s care, supervision, or safety Routine pet care is not automatically part of the assignment unless it is specifically included in the client’s approved care plan. What We Are Looking For Exceptional Reliability and Continuity of Care This assignment requires a caregiver who can consistently work: Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
