Smoky Mountain Nursing & Rehabilitation is seeking a dedicated and detail‑oriented Admissions Nurse to join our clinical leadership team. The Admissions Nurse plays a critical role in ensuring smooth, compliant, and welcoming admissions while collaborating closely with nursing leadership, providers, and interdisciplinary teams.
This position is ideal for an experienced nurse who thrives in coordination, communication, and clinical oversight during the admission process.
Position Summary
The Admissions Nurse is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of the resident admission process, ensuring regulatory compliance, timely clinical documentation, and a positive admission experience for residents and families.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Admissions Nurse will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Collaborating with the Admissions Director on room placement and admission coordination
Reviewing and entering admission orders accurately and timely
Receiving and communicating clinical reports from acute care facilities
Completing all required admission assessments
Ensuring availability of required equipment and medications prior to admission
Notifying practitioners and securing required orders and signatures
Reviewing referrals in collaboration with the Unit Manager when the DON is unavailable
Obtaining consent to treat and POST forms
Maintaining current POST forms at nursing stations
Securing additional consent for psychoactive medications as required
Ensuring pharmacy has all medication orders and narcotic prescriptions
Participating in the on‑call rotation for nurse management
Ensuring timely submission of PAEs
Confirming rooms are fully prepared prior to resident arrival
Orienting new admissions to the facility, routines, and care team, including nursing staff, housekeeping, and rehabilitation services as indicated
Qualifications
Active RN or LPN license in the state of Tennessee
Prior experience in skilled nursing or long‑term care preferred
Strong knowledge of admission processes, documentation, and regulatory requirements
Excellent communication, organizational, and time‑management skills
Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams
Comfortable handling multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
