Summary:
The NAI is responsible for administering direct patient care and performing other duties deemed necessary to insure optimal patient care, under the direction and supervision of a professional nurse. The NAI performs duties, such as feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, or moving patients or changing linens.

Responsibilities:
Patients and families are served in providing direct patient care services. Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationships in a manner to project a positive image of the department and hospital. Ensures that contacts with other health care members is friendly helpful and courteous.

Good interpersonal, communication and observation skills are essential. Understanding of patient care needs according to developmental stages for various age groups.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Exposure to blood borne pathogens, airborne pathogens, and other infectious diseases requiring the use of protective equipment; exposure to other hazards, such as radiation, toxic waste, chemical hazards based on the departments. Possible exposure to conditions, such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

Standing, sitting, walking and working throughout the shift. Lifting, pulling, turning and pushing patients daily. Ability to use appropriate Safe-Patient Handling equipment. Visual acuity, auditory and verbal skills necessary. Stressful work periods and rotating shifts.

Description The Medicine Progressive Care Unit (MPCU) is seeking a Nursing Assistant I (Per Diem) to join their team. The MPCU is a 24-bed intermediate care unit on the medicine service that has moved to a newly renovated location on 3 Bedtower. This unit receives a variety of medical patients who require intermediate level care. The MPCU has received the Gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence designated by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). The AACN created the Beacon designation to recognize individual units that have set a path to excellence in an effort to highlight critical care units that distinguish themselves in every facet of patient care. Recipients of a Gold Beacon designation demonstrate excellence in sustained unit performance and patient outcomes. This is a Per Diem/ at-will position requiring the ability to generally work a minimum of 12 hours every 2 weeks; Day & Night Rotating shifts, general hours are 7am-7:30pm & 7pm-7:30am, with weekend and holiday rotation.
