The Hospital Medicine Department at MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center is seeking Advanced Practice Providers to provide adult in-patient care on a PRN basis.

Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt

 Hours per week: Varies

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Varies; Opportunities for both day and night shifts; 7:00am -7:00pm or 7:00pm - 7:00am

Patient Population Focus: Inpatient

Patient Population Age Range:18-Death

Required Minimum Training and Experience Training:

  • Physician Assistant (PA): Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant.

or

  • APRN
    • AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP): Adult pts (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.
    • FNP (Family NP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.

Required Experience: Must have at least 6 months of hospital medicine experience

Preferred Training and Experience:

  • Physician Assistant (PA): Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant.

Preferred Experience: Minimum of 1 year as a Physician Assistant or FNP/AGACNP in Hospital medicine and ICU experience.

Degree of Supervision: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:

  • Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with the SC Board of Nursing.
  • Requires certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). If ACLS is not current, provider must enroll and have received certificate by start date.
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be submitted prior to first day.

Job Duties

Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:

  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
  • Initiates referrals to other health care provides, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
  • APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law

Physical Requirements

Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.

Additional Job Description

Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and two years clinical experience required, at least one year of which must have been in a specialty area of care. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner specific to the area of employment required unless a new graduate. New graduates must be certification eligible upon employment, and obtain certification within six months of employment. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse and hold official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner from the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required

About Allendale Community Hospital: Allendale County Hospital is a county-owned Critical Access Hospital that serves as the primary healthcare provider for residents of Allendale County and surrounding rural communities. Established in 1950, the hospital was built with a mission to improve access to care in an underserved region and continues to operate as a not-for-profit facility governed by a local board. The hospital is licensed for 25 inpatient beds and provides a broad range of services despite its smaller size, including 24/7 emergency care, inpatient and outpatient treatment, and general medical and surgical services. Because of its Critical Access Hospital designation, it plays a vital role in maintaining healthcare access in rural South Carolina, ensuring patients can receive care close to home without traveling long distances. Required Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program Board certified (AANP, ANCC, NCCPA) Active or eligible South Carolina license Experience in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or rural health preferred Strong clinical decision-making and adaptability Position Highlights: Manage acute and chronic conditions for hospitalized patients in a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital Perform comprehensive history, physical exams, and diagnostic interpretation Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans Availability of a tele-hospitalist physician to support patient care through clinical supervision, consultation, and assistance as needed.
