Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY
A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is a per diem consultant position, responsible for providing advanced assessment, diagnosis, and psychiatric management of children, adolescents, and young adult residents with complex behavioral and mental health conditions.
This position will report to the Chief Medical Officer but will also work closely and collaboratively with the staff Psychologist.
This position requires working on-site at least one half-day per month.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provide Psychiatric consultation services on a monthly basis, and as needed/requested by Psychologist and/or CMO. Consultation services will include both initial evaluations as well as follow-up visits.
- Work collaboratively with trans-disciplinary Medical and Mental Health team to develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that include behavioral interventions, mental health counselling support, and pharmaceutical interventions – where/when appropriate.
- Working with the consulting Psychiatrist and/or other collaborating physician, make recommendations regarding prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medications, adjusting dosages based on effectiveness as well as age and weight appropriate prescribing guidelines. Use of psychotropic medications will follow specific ESCC policies and procedures as well as NYSDOH and CMS regulatory guidance, including the use of gradual dose reductions, if and when appropriate.
- Participate in trans-disciplinary staff meetings and behavioral care plans, as requested by Psychologist and/or CMO.
- Provide education to families, residents, and staff regarding specific mental health conditions.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical record documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations and ESCC policies and procedures.
- Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by supervisor, department director, and/or administration.
Qualifications
Education Requirements:
- Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Nursing with a focus on Psychiatry-Mental Health (PMHNP).
- Current, valid, APRN license and active DEA certificate for prescribing controlled substances.
- Board-certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Experience
- Two or more years of experience in Pediatric or Adolescent Psychiatry. Experience in a residential setting or with medically complex patients is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and expertise in child and adolescent developmental stages. Familiarity with medical complexity is also preferred.

- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
- Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds.
- Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.
Working Conditions:
- Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area.
- May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, when necessary.
Hourly Rate:
$90/Hr.
