A Brief Overview
The Monitor Technician/Nursing Assistant continually monitors cardiac rhythms on a specific unit, identifies and interprets changes in rhythms and acts appropriately. Performs clerical duties on a nursing unit, answers the telephone, relays messages, and acts as a receptionist receiving and directing visitors and ambulatory patients. The Monitor Technician/Nursing Assistant is also responsible for direct patient care services as assigned by the Clinical Director and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

- Perform routine patient care and support services under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms of assigned patients through continuous surveillance.
- Integrate education and technical competence to gain patient cooperation and confidence.
- Exercise sound judgment and clinical skills to support the patient's plan of care.
- Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and hospital policies to ensure patient privacy and safety.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and patients.
- Recognize emergency situations and take appropriate action.
- Manage multiple tasks and prioritize assignments in a dynamic environment.
- Build collaborative relationships with peers and staff to achieve departmental objectives.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma with the successful completion of Medical Terminology, Nursing Assistant or Monitor Tech course preferred. May substitute 2 years previous specific work experience with medical terminology for the Medical Terminology course certification. (Example: HIM Tech, Paralegal, Medical Biller, Medical Secretary, Patient Access Representative) Required or
- High School Diploma with completion of approved course of study for Nursing Assistant training or successful completion of fundamentals semester of Nursing school preferred.
Experience Qualifications
- Monitor Technician/Nursing Assistant or relevant experience in a related health care field Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic patient care skills, various medical terminology, views, and equipment.
- Ability to recognize an emergency and take appropriate action.
- Written and verbal communications skills to communicate with fellow team members, supervisors, patients, and other personnel.

- Advanced knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), electronic medical records (EMR), EPIC, and related information systems.
- Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.
- Identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options.
- Ability to build collaborate relationships with peers and other staff members to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.
Licenses and Certifications
- Certifeid Cardiac Monitor Technicians and Telemetry Technicians - National Healthcareer Association Required or
- Certifeid Cardiac Monitor Technicians and Telemetry Technicians - National Telemetry Association Required
