Position Overview:
The Director of Nursing is responsible to provide leadership for all aspects of clinical care within Lake Winona Manor. This includes quality of care provided, outcomes of care, workflow, overall operational efficiency, regulatory compliance and adherence to accepted standards of practice. Leadership responsibilities also include strategic alignment, facilitating innovation through lean initiatives, improvement in quality of resident centered care, promoting a high level of staff and resident satisfaction. This role maintains an active presence and availability to staff in clinical areas and develops and maintains positive relationships and interactions with other directors, medical staff and support departments at Winona Health; i.e. Environmental Services, Facilities, Hospital Services such as Emergency Room/Urgent Care/Inpatient, Accounting, etc.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Alleviates obstacles to unit growth, teamwork or team decision-making while utilizing the lean process structure. Assists in developing or expanding services where appropriate and strives for excellent resident satisfaction.
- Utilizes lean methodologies and practices on a continuous basis including Leaders Standard Work and promoting lean methodologies throughout the value stream.
- Develops and facilitates a structure within the value stream where staff skills are continuously developed and where staff have opportunity to demonstrate innovation in order to improve work processes as well as improve quality and satisfaction outcomes.
- Maintain an awareness of industry standard, evidence-based practices, and equip department members to function at or above that level.
- Champions and role models CSI work across the organization. Collects data and demonstrates ability to interpret the data so that appropriate targets on agreed upon measures are achieved.
- Effectively communicates appropriate information with staff using the established and preferred communication methods and regular staff meetings.
- Acts on the leadership team for Winona Senior Services and Winona Health
- Provides instruction, support and ongoing supervision for caregivers when course correction is needed.
- Leads regulatory compliance processes for clinical areas.
- Maintains an advanced knowledge of the Nursing Practice Process including assessment, implementation, planning and evaluation of resident care. Is able to think critically, prioritize issues effectively and delegate responsibility appropriately.
- Maintains current knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, nursing theory, research, medications, ethical and legal issues related to resident services. Develops and maintains policies and procedures accordingly. Facilitates appropriate education to all levels of staff so they are equipped to apply the necessary knowledge and skills. Is responsible to ensure that ethical practices are in place.
- Investigates and follows up on staff and resident complaints. Tracks and trends complaint information so that process improvements can be facilitated and satisfaction and/or quality of care is continuously improved.
- Determines staffing needs in a cost-effective manner to assure appropriate and qualified staff availability within units.
- Assesses staffing needs, census and acuity and assures collaboration between units to assure adequate staffing patterns are maintained and quality of care is appropriate.
- Demonstrates crucial conversation skills to open the lines of communication.
- Serves as Privacy Officer for Lake Winona Manor to assist in ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of and adherence to the organization's policies and procedures that cover the privacy of and access to patient health information in compliance with federal and state laws. Ensures all HIPAA regulations are followed related to patient information.

Skills and Experience:
Required:
- 2- or 4-year nursing degree
- Current and active RN License in the State of MN
- Proven record of management skills
- Director of Nursing series training required within the first year of employment
- Active participation in continuing education programs
- CPR Certification
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to prioritize and delegate effectively
- Advanced computer skills
Preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint.)
- Patient information database (Cerner/Oracle, EMR, MatrixCare)
- Experience leading in an environment with bargaining units
Required Competencies:
This position is a direct care provider and requires the ability to give adequate care to patients/residents in the following age groups:
- Adult (18-65)
- Geriatric (65 and over)
