Registered Nurse General Surgery Unit-Part-Time-Days

Newport News, Virginia Hiring Range $36.50 - $50.23/Hourly Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs. Part Time-Days Available 7am-7pm Up to $7,000 Sign on Bonus for eligible RNs with 2 years nursing experience. Up to $6,000 sign on bonus for New Grads. Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and the Director and is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients. The RN utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to create a care plan for each patient based on physiological, psychosocial and cultural diversity. Responsible for supervising and delegating non-professional personnel working directly with him/her to ensure optimum patient care. Must demonstrate competence in dealing with age related needs of the specific patient populations served in nursing unit. Works under the direction of leadership and a multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health system and facility goals and strategic plans. What you will do Demonstrates ability to assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population. Demonstrates nursing unit specific competencies and equipment training, see checklists. Partners with patients and their family to develop, implement and evaluate a plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient. Incorporates evidence based standards of practice and collaborates with interdisciplinary team in care coordination. Facilitates safe patient transition to next level of care as part of plan of care. Demonstrates sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to ensure patient receives consistent, competent and ethical care. Focuses on quality outcomes of patient when addressing service needs to ensure evidence based quality care of patient. Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations. Modifies education method to ensure patient/family understanding. Assumes responsibility to coordinate and deliver individualized patient education and discharge specific education to family/caregivers. Evaluates for comprehension and documents. Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements. Overview Cardiothoracic OR RN will support the RRMC Cardiothoracic surgery program. Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients. The RN may work in a variety of settings in the Perioperative Services Complex and roles within Riverside Health System. The RN utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to create a care plan for each patient based on physiological, psychosocial and cultural diversity. Responsible for supervising and delegating non-professional personnel working directly with him/her to ensure optimum patient care. Must demonstrate competence in dealing with age related needs of the specific patient populations served in the Perioperative Services units/departments. This role is expected to float among other RHS facilities and perform like competencies of their primary role. Team member will be expected to stay late to complete cases as needed. RN must maintain competencies unique to Cardiothoracic surgery to include assisting, anticipating, scrubbing, and preparing for complex Cardiothoracic surgery cases. Responsible for high acuity, advanced Cardiothoracic surgery open, minimally invasive and robotics. Collaborative with UVA affiliation. What you will do Demonstrates ability to assess Cardiothoracic patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population served in the Perioperative Services units/departments (see unit specific competencies and equipment checklists). Partners with patients and families to develop, implement and evaluate plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient. Assesses and incorporates evidence-based standards of practice. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in the coordination care. Facilitates safe patient transitions to the next care setting as part of plan of care. Will round on the patient pre-operatively and post operatively to enhance the patient experience. Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations and ability to modify education method to ensure patient/family comprehension. Educates by assuming responsibility to individualize and coordinate patient education, and discharge specific education that includes family/caregiver. Evaluates for patient comprehension and documents. Ability to delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate patient care and ensure patient care needs are met. Able to recognize and respond to emergency situations. Evaluates own needs for support and uses identified systems to meet need. Responsible for emergency supplies, processes related to Cardiothoracic surgery to include frequent drills. Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements. Document required information for registry and antibiotics and beta blocker timing. Demonstrates a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to assure patients receive consistent, competent, and ethical care. Focuses on quality outcomes of patient care when addressing customer’s needs to include current evidence based practice and quality measures.
