Summary

Responsible for administering non-injectable medications as prescribed by the physician under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Assists in the care activities of an assigned group of residents; to ensure the Robison Jewish Health Center goal of providing care to our residents in an atmosphere of comfort, independence, and dignity.

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct resident care as required by the Nursing Supervisor, for example, feeding residents, aiding with toileting needs; assisting the floor Certified Nursing Assistants with their tasks when required.
  • Administers routine non-injectable medications to assigned residents as ordered by the physician, and under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Set up and maintain a regular schedule of appropriate activities for residents referred to restorative therapy, including but not limited to ambulation, grooming and hygiene, and self-feeding.
  • Carries out ambulation programs, range of motion programs maintenance exercise programs, and activities of daily living training programs, including dressing, grooming and hygiene. 

Required Skills/Abilities

Consistent execution of quality customer service. Maintains and demonstrates ethical conduct. Able to effectively communicate with geriatric and/or confused residents and a variety of other people such as family members, visitors, vendors, Private Duty Residents, and staff. Positive and constructive attitude. Demonstrated knowledge of body mechanics and safe feeding techniques. Consistently able to do repetitive detail work. Comprehension of medical terminology, advanced keyboard/computer skills; basic working knowledge of office equipment such as copier, printer; and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel preferred.

 

Required Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an approved Nurses Assistant and Medication program required.
  • 1-3 years’ similar experience required.
  • Certification as a Nurse Assistant in the State of Oregon and Medication Aide Certification required, with proof of having passed the Oregon State Board of Nursing Medication Aide examination. Must be in good standing with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification.
