A Brief Overview
This student team member is a part of the care delivery team under the direction of and assistive to, a Registered Nurse to provide delegated, direct patient care intervention, including the performance of non-sterile procedures. Responsible for providing a safe environment for assigned patients; to complete the assigned work; to monitor the patient for changes in condition and to report those changes to the RN/LPN.

Education Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in their first semester in an accredited nursing program.


Experience Qualifications

  • 1 year Customer service experience. Required
  • Direct patient care experience. Preferred

  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other, as identified within the institution. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

What you will do

  • Obtains verbal report from patient’s nurse to include information regarding identified care needs, diagnosis, communication barriers, and special considerations (NPO, bed alarms, suicide precautions, etc.). Communicates pertinent patient information to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
  • Obtains instruction from nurse regarding ambulation limitations and course of action for redirection of patient if needed.
  • Positions self in patient room continuously observing patients behavior and activity. Never leaves the patient alone or out of sight unless specifically instructed by the nurse.
  • Provides patient comfort, safety and satisfaction.
  • Student Nurse Techs are restricted from performing any RN license tasks.
  • Assist with patient intake as directed by the nurse.
  • Assists in ambulating and positioning patients as directed by the RN.
  • Assists with lifting and movement of patients to chairs, gurneys, beds, etc, as directed by the nurse.
  • Keeps work area clean and well organized.
  • Accurately and legibly records data collected as necessary and notifies nurse of any condition and/or behavior changes.

Through a Realistic Job Preview of each unit's nursing workflow, you will determine which unit offer best fits your career goals for longevity in that specialty unit. Transition seamlessly from a Nurse Extern II into a RN role. What we are looking for: Current enrollment with Dec. 2026 anticipated graduation of an accredited nursing program. Successful completion of a Medical Surgical Course that includes pharmacological concepts. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities/workload necessary. BLS certification.
