Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide patient care on an outpatient basis to include procedures normally performed in an urgent care setting
  • Responsible for the delivery of care, treatment, and referrals.
  • Arrange for referral resources for those medical specialties not provided by the organization for patients of the clinic
  • Evaluate patients to determine the medical condition of the patient, through the performance of physical examinations, thereby, establishing a diagnosis and proposed treatment plan
  • Perform such clinical procedures for patient's benefit which are within scope and skill of practitioner
  • Communicate information to patients regarding diagnosis and treatment goals
  • Maintains accurate, complete, concise, and timely documentation with a focus on proper level coding and clinical documentation integrity (CDI) in the electronic medical record
  • Ability to perform occupational and telemedicine patient care
  • Perform non-patient facing duties such as lab and x-ray review
  • Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned by the Medical Director

 

What’s Required:

  • Current, unrestricted PA or NP license in the state or the ability to obtain 
  • Ability to obtain:
    • DOT certification within 60 days of hire
    • DEA licensure 
  • Knowledge of treatment and drug interactions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Compensation: Pay is based on experience, skills and falls within an established range.

Position Overview We are seeking a full‑time Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our highly specialized Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) at East Jefferson General Hospital. Program Highlights You’ll support a diverse and complex cardiac case mix with large mechanical support, including: Open Heart Surgery Heart and Lung Transplant Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs) 12 hour shifts Day/night rotation In this role, you will function as an advanced clinician providing comprehensive, evidence‑based care to complex, critically ill cardiothoracic patients. You will work collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care across the continuum. Key Responsibilities Clinical Assessment & Decision‑Making Assess acutely and critically ill patients, identifying urgent and emergent conditions Analyze clinical data to recognize physiologic instability and guide treatment decisions Formulate and implement plans of care for complex acute and chronic conditions Clinical Interventions Perform advanced therapeutic interventions within approved scope of practice and credentialed privileges Evaluate indications, contraindications, risks, benefits, and outcomes of interventions Respond rapidly to changes in patient condition to optimize outcomes Plan of Care Management Evaluate, modify, and document care plans based on patient response Coordinate transitions of care across levels and settings Incorporate health promotion, injury prevention, and patient safety principles into all care plans Education & Collaboration Serve as an educational resource for patients, families, nursing staff, and provider teams Act as a consultant and collaborator within a multidisciplinary environment Professional Development & Leadership Participate in scholarly activities, research, and quality improvement initiatives Maintain all required competencies and pursue ongoing professional development Serve as a preceptor and mentor for nurses, APPs, students, and other healthcare professionals Patient Safety & Quality Demonstrate a strong commitment to patient safety and quality improvement Speak up about safety concerns and participate in system‑based reporting Share accountability for maintaining a culture of safe, high‑reliability care Qualifications Education Master’s degree in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Studies Licensure & Certification Active, unrestricted Louisiana Acute NP or Physician Assistant license (or temporary permit) Active DEA registration and Louisiana Controlled Dangerous Substance license American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certification Why East Jefferson General Hospital?
