Summary

The Associate Nurse Manager OR Trauma reports directly to the Nurse Manager and oversees daily operations of assigned shift ensuring proper care is provided to all patients. The Associate Nurse Manager OR Trauma is accountable to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical and support staff, and appropriate resource and service management related to patient care on assigned shift. The Associate Nurse Manager OR Trauma must also ensure services and care are provided abiding by the policies and procedures of the organization, demonstrate fiscal responsibility and accountability. The Associate Nurse Manager OR Trauma plays a crucial role in assisting the Nurse Manager with strategic operations of the unit, conducting staff meetings, and all other responsibilities. The Associate Nurse Manager OR Trauma is knowledgeable of hospital policies and procedures, regulatory requirements and patient care standards.

Responsibilities

Strategic Vision: 

  • The Associate Nurse Manager Neuro works closely with the Nurse Manager and nursing leadership team to understand and support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of Jackson Health System and demonstrates a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public and co-workers. 

People Leadership: 

  • The Associate Nurse Manager Neuro works to improve employee engagement through collaboration; holds staff accountable, meets one on one with staff, and frequently acknowledges team members for great performance. 
  • Provides active involvement in LEAN/Process improvement workgroups. 
  • Leads structured active and motivating huddles before shifts, works with the Unions to resolve staff issues and continuously emphasizing the CARE values. 
  • The Associate Nurse Manager Neuro contributes to retention of staff by providing supportive and mentoring relationships. 
  • The ANM Neuro is responsible for growth and development of employees and daily operation of assigned shift, including strategic succession plan. 
  • Participates, identifies, and follows through with plan of action to develop staff, while supporting a Just Culture Model, reflecting a non-punitive environment and a reward system for reporting unsafe practices. 
  • Participates in and initiates the corrective action process when necessary and ensures that policies are fairly and consistently enforced as evidenced by active involvement in a least one policy or process improvement committee. 

Service Excellence: 

  • Uses and role models the nursing process to provide, modify and coordinate the highest standard of care and patient/family education. 
  • Anticipates, identifies, prioritizes, and reports significant overt and covert patient findings and inconsistencies in medical plans. 
  • Consistently rounds on patients, monitors bedside handoff, and assures responsiveness from the call light. 
  • Assists with facilitating education of employees such as clinical competencies for the unit staff, orientation of new staff, and mentoring current staff. Demonstrates knowledge and clinical skills to oversee daily operations of the nursing unit and staff and assumes 24/7 responsibility in the absence of the nurse manager. 
  • Assists the Nurse Manager in meeting the expectations of staffing requirements, nursing care and nursing documentation. 
  • Reports issues or concerns immediately and appropriately by keeping leaders informed of occurrences or changes related to patient acuity or complexity of any incidents. 

Organizational Impact: 

  • Collaborates with the Nurse Manager and Director regarding formulating and implementing short and long term goals that align with organizational priorities, evidenced by partnering with case management and physicians ensuring completion of all consults and patient dispositions related to timely patient discharges according to established departmental policies. 
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all providers, and acts as an effective resource for staff and other members of the healthcare team. 
  • Works with leadership to identify, develop, and retain high potential employees by actively engaging them through stretch assignments, supervision and educational programs. 
  • With leader oversight, evaluates the performance of direct reports focusing on results and developmental need and supports the organizations performance improvement program. 
  • Collaborates with leaders, educators, and preceptors to recruit and orient new employees overseeing a comprehensive unit base orientation. 
  • Functions as a role model to promote the Mission, Vision, philosophy, code of ethics and CARE values of the organization. 
  • Works with the Union Partnership to create staffing efficiencies and better quality outcomes. 

Continuous Improvement: 

  • Analyzes healthcare trends through nursing literature and suggests changes and improvement in patient care standards. 
  • Organizes data and problem solves with minimal supervision in a prompt, efficient manner. 
  • Supports the ongoing improvement of quality and performance metrics for nursing including, but not limited to core measures, hospital acquired infections, safety initiatives and the patient experience. 
  • Evidence by daily rounding of all patients in the unit to verify end ensure the highest nursing practice standards are applied, including compliance with handwashing of all staff on the nursing unit, and utilizing the iRounding patient satisfaction questionnaire. 

Operational Excellence: 

  • Participates in budgetary planning process. 
  • Monitors and intervenes to maintain monthly budget by working with direct reports on developing and improving cost management strategies in order to meet or exceed financial targets. 
  • Completes monthly schedules to ensure adequate staffing based on patient care, acuity, and workforce targets. 
  • Reviews, and approves time cards and timely Kronos edits. 
  • Manages staffing on a regular basis. Understands and maintains compliance with all regulatory and JHS policy and procedures. 
  • Serves as a resource to prepare and maintain the unit to meet regulatory agency requirements. 
  • Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list. 
  • Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required. 
  • Role models behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). 
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

  • Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience. 
  • Management experience is strongly preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.

  • Must meet and maintain valid and current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by regulatory and/or nursing standard of practice for the specialty.

Description Job Summary Under general supervision, renders professional nursing care in accordance with physicians' treatment plans in order to provide for the comfort and well-being of patients. Assesses patients' condition, administers prescribed drugs, provides treatments, observes patients' progress, records pertinent observations and reports reaction to drugs and treatments. Assists physicians with examinations and prepares instruments and equipment for physicians' use. Coordinates care planning, collaborates with the clinical and medical staff, and educates patients and their family members on the procedure in a compassionate patient and family centered care environment. Job Specific Duties Completes all nursing multi-system assessment that includes head to toe, vitals, dressing changes, suction, feeding, bathing, and repositioning. Reviews patient admission history, prepares and accurately completes the discharge planning process as per department and hospital policies & procedures. Communicates the patient's progress including critical findings, changes in the patients' condition with the physician and/or disciplines involved in the care of the child. Plans, implements, and documents the plan of care in collaboration with the other disciplines and services to assure safe and efficient care. Provides nursing care that includes IV site monitoring and troubleshooting, specimen collection, and assists medical team with special procedures. Follows physician’s orders and administers & reconstitutes medications directed. Adheres to the six rights of medication administration. Collaborates and rounds with a multi-disciplinary team in daily care planning rounds, as appropriate, and fosters a Family Centered Care environment. Accesses electronic health record independently according to hospital policy. Completes accurate and timely documentation in the patient’s electronic health record. Communicates with patients and families to review plan of care and solicits input and communicates any patient and family concerns to physician. Educates patients and their family about disease processes, post treatment home care such as disease, medication, treatments, pain, discharge, and safety. Qualifications Minimum Job Requirements Completion of a nursing program from an accredited school of Nursing RN Licensure within the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC) – maintain active and in good standing throughout employment American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment American Heart Association PALS required within 1 year of hire - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as specified by the department within 1 year of hire American Heart Association ACLS as specified by the department within 1 year of hire Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities CPI (Crisis Intervention Training) is preferred. National certified preferably within 2 years of hire. Functions as IV champions within 6 months of hire.
