Scope of work

An integral part of the care leadership team, the Hospital Supervisor has responsibility for coordination and delivery of clinical services activities on their assigned shift. In the absence of the department or facility leadership, is responsible for appropriate use of staff, staffing levels, immediate problem solving, management decision making and maintaining a safe environment by ensuring adherence to safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Provides clinical support / leadership for high-risk patients or unusual situations. Accountable for patient census, observation status and appropriate bed utilization. Communicates with patients, families, and the public to promote positive relations, diffuse problems, and address patient/family concerns/issues; consults with Administrator on Call as appropriate. Provides supervision and leadership to hospital staff in collaboration with unit/department level leaders. Facilitates positive change, quality care and appropriate use of resources in a cost-effective and efficient manner. Demonstrates critical thinking, problem resolution, mentoring/education of staff.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree nursing (BSN) Required.
Master's Degree nursing (MSN) Preferred.
2 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required.
2 years of relevant experience recent relevant leadership (i.e., Charge Nurse, Shared Leadership position, Magnet Champion, QSO) (based on Corewell Health entity) Preferred.
MI RN license Required.
AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required.
AHA Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) 180 days Required.
Corewell Health Nurse Supervisors are REQUIRED to obtain their Nursing Administration or Professional/Specialty Certification within 12 months of assuming the role, or within 12 months of achieving eligibility to sit for the exam if not eligible upon hire into the role.

Job Description About the unit 5 Center is an 18 bed Adult Blood and Marrow Transplant unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of those with oncology diagnoses who are being admitted for their stem cell transplant or readmitted for transplant complications. The unit also consists of patients with oncology diagnosis and those getting specialized immunotherapy treatments. Specializing in transplant care, running, and maintaining central lines, administering chemotherapy treatments, managing high acuity patients, and providing oncology education to its patients are a couple of the main responsibilities for our nursing staff. Longer stays for patients on this unit are common, allowing the team on 5 Center to build meaningful relationships with the patient and their family. Although this is a specialized unit there is still much to learn due to the variety in patient conditions in addition to their cancer. Teamwork on this unit is known to be exceptional and the team is proud to assist one another in tasks that allow all shifts to run smoothly. 5 Center welcomes candidates who have a passion for oncology/stem cell therapy. This unit is the perfect place to gain experience as a new nurse and grow your career! The patient population on 4 West provides its employees the opportunity to learn about a variety of different conditions consisting of primarily hospitalist medicine patients with a wide variety of diagnosis, some of which include: pneumonia, sepsis, cellulitis, kidney failure, and hyperglycemia. In Butterworth hospital it is common to see high acuity patients which provides the opportunity to develop acute care skills such as patient assessments, IV/urinary catheter/NG tube placement, rapid decline in patient condition, Endotool, etc. 4 West is a well-established team that works collaboratively and functions exceptionally well. This collaboration is not only experienced between RNs or technicians but also the interdisciplinary team on the unit which includes hospitalists, care managers, social workers, pharmacy, physical therapists, and occupational therapists.
