The UW Medical Center Montlake's Cardiac Cath Lab has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse 2 to join their team.
Job Summary
The Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. They effectively communicate with physicians about changes in the patient’s condition, including hemodynamic monitoring and symptomatology. The RN responds quickly and accurately to changes or needs based on the patient assessments. Responsibilities include patient prep for procedures, ongoing patient assessments, providing appropriate moderate sedation per UWMC policy, monitoring, and circulating diagnostic and complex interventional cardiology procedures. They will participate in performance improvement and CQI activities as requested. This unit-specific description of job responsibilities should be combined with the UWMC RN2 position description.

Job Duties And Performance Standards
- Instructs and prepares patients for Cardiac Cath procedures. Performs pre-procedure assessments and patient/family education in preparation for scheduled procedure(s).
- Complete Pre-Procedure Checklist(s) and other required documentation in EPIC. Ensures consent, moderate sedation documentation, and appropriate orders have been completed by the physician prior to the procedure.
- Identifies and assesses high risks patients. Accurately addresses patient’s medical issues prior to patient arrival in Cardiac Cath Lab. Initiates Anesthesia Consult per screening tool(s) and UW Moderate Sedation Policy if indicated.
- Monitors hemodynamic status of patients undergoing Cath procedures, correctly interprets results, revises plan of care based on patient’s response to the procedure, demonstrating knowledge of cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmias.
- Assists with prepping and draping of patients while following aseptic techniques.
- Performs patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
- Consistently assesses and documents patient pain interfering with procedure - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
- Assists with maintenance of supplies and operation of equipment related to procedures.
- Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors by correctly labeling and handling medications.
- Participates in the management of inventory and assists in the evaluation of new products as directed/requested.
- Participates in the mentoring, education and/or training of other staff and students.
- May perform quality control testing and cleaning on a variety of equipment.
- Assists in maintaining accurate records and reports.
- Recognizes, responds to, and manages emergency situations according to protocols and standards.
- Ongoing assessment of patient needs and identifies issues or concerns pre-, intra- and post-procedure.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Completes a comprehensive hand-off to the recovery or inpatient unit receiving their patient.

- Attends classes/trainings to establish and maintain clinical competencies
- Fulfills mandatory continuing education requirements such as online LMS modules, and accumulation of CEU hours.
- Complies with annual UWMC Employee Health mandates such as vaccine programs, TB testing, and respiratory fit testing.
- Fulfills the preceptor role, if requested by management, and agreed upon by nurse.
- Fulfills the Charge nurse role, if requested by management, and agreed upon by nurse.
- Adheres to attendance standards.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Requirements
- Current Washington State Registered Nurse Licensure.
- ACLS certification; able to obtain within 4 months of hire.
- Required: Recent cardiac/telemetry experience
- Desired: Two or more years of recent critical care or Cath Lab experience.
- Language Skills
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Other Skills
- Basic computer knowledge and skills.
