Responsibilities
- Obtain and document vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate.
- Assist physicians and RNs with examinations, treatments, and care plans.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, and injections.
- Prepare patients for exams, gather medical histories, and ensure exam rooms are clean and stocked.
- Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR).
- Educate patients on medications, chronic disease management, and preventive care.
- Monitor patient condition and report changes to supervising nurses or providers.
- Assess patient symptoms via phone or in‑person to determine urgency.
- Prioritize care using established triage protocols and assign urgency levels.
- Provide medical advice within LPN scope, including self‑care instructions for non‑urgent issues.
- Document all triage interactions and recommendations in the EHR.
- Coordinate referrals to physicians, specialists, urgent care, or emergency departments.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and escalate complex cases to RNs or physicians.
- Educate patients on medication management and preventive health measures.
- Assist with INR and device clinic, process blood samples for INR checks
- Coordinate necessary care for device patients under EP supervision
- Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
- Regular and prompt attendance
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
- Related duties as assigned
Additional Information
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the State of Alabama Required
- LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure or current Multi-State License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama Required
- Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
