Essential Functions of Certified Medication Technician (CMT):

  • Performs resident care responsibilities in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort consistent with MGM Healthcare Clinical Policies and Procedures as well as state/federal guidelines and regulations
  • Administers medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of “five rights” of medication administration
  • Administers and records all medication given to residents based upon their specific chart
  • Notifies appropriate licensed staff when a resident complains of pain.
  • May take and record vital signs of residents as assigned or as may be required by certain medications
  • Records the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately, utilizing the computer system to enter and reference resident information as needed
  • Answers resident call lights, anticipates resident’s needs and makes rounds to assigned resident under the supervision of a licensed nurse or charge nurse on the shift
  • Observes for and reports any reactions and/or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse on the appropriate shift
  • Performs all aspects of resident care in an environment that optimizes resident safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
  • Support and maintains a culture of safety and quality
  • Administers PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy
  • Reports and when appropriate, records any changes observed in condition or behavior of residents and unusual incidents
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications of Certified Medication Technician (CMT):

  • High School diploma or general equivalency is preferred
  • Must pass a state-issued exam
  • Required valid certification as a CMT in the state of Missouri
  • Six months experience in a long-term care environment is preferred
  • Candidates must maintain a working email address and phone number for employer communication.
  • Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and facility staff
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Additional languages preferred
  • Basic computer knowledge

Certified Medication Technician Job Description Job Summary Performs nurse aide duties that provide for the physical and emotional needs of the assigned patients. Essential Functions Adheres to RAH policies and Maryland Nurse Practice Act. Performs work under the supervision of the Supervising Nurse/Delegating Nurse. Performs nurse aides duties, not limited to: personal care of the patient (bathing, d ressing, or hygiene, toileting activities and feeding), transferring and ambulation activities, range of motion exercises, vital signs (temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate, and blood pressure), and post mortem care. Receives direction from licensed nurses in planning and carrying out nursing aide care. Observes and reports to the licensed nurse the physical and psychological conditi on of the patient including any changes. Reports safety hazards and unusual incidents involving patients, visitors or self to the Supervising Nurse and to the o ffice. Performs the following, provided that he/she has been trained, demonstrated competency and it is within the RAH policy and state law; colostomy care, wound care, catheter care and medication administration. The Certified Medication tech will NOT perform any of the following: taking or transcribing physician orders activities outside the Scope of Practice for CMT as outlined in the State Practice Act. Education, Experience, Knowledge, Ski lls, Abilities and Availability Graduate of a state approved Certified Medication Technician course. Six months experience within the past 2 years as a Certified Medication Technician. Currently certified in the state as a Certified Medication Tech. Passing score on RAH’s CMT Competency exam. Meets the health requirements for employees providing direct patient care. Read, write, speak, and understand English as needed for the job.
