Graduate Practical Nurse

Performs the primary functions of an LPN in assisting with assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of all patients, regardless of age, during his/her shift. Responsible for meeting the established standards of skilled nursing practice. Professional Graduate Practical Nurse collaborates with the care team, participates in interdisciplinary care, and advocates for patients.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Professional Graduate Practical Nurse demonstrates: time management, critical thinking, delegation, and prioritization.
  • Gathering data, monitoring, recording, and reporting changes in patient's condition.
  • Advocates for patient.
  • Practices ethically and professionally within their scope.
  • Maintains clinical competence specific to their care area including organization required education within stated timeframe.
  • Coordinates care with interdisciplinary team.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Documents appropriately and thoroughly in EMR.
  • Promotes EBP (evidence-based practice) and best practices related to patient care.
  • Participates in unit councils and staff meetings.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Education: Graduate of a Nursing Program
  • Licensure: Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Certification: As required for your care area. May include: CPR/BLS, ACLS, PALS, Specialty Certification recommended

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience: Prior patient care and customer service experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • May require lifting (up to 50 lbs.), may require sitting or standing for long periods. Must be able to physically operate the equipment required for the job.
