Job description About the position The Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist at Oak Street Health plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality, community-based healthcare. This position involves working closely with care teams to provide exceptional patient experiences, assist in health assessments, and perform routine diagnostic testing. The role requires flexibility, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving skills to effectively support patients and healthcare providers. Responsibilities • Ensures efficient patient flow by rooming patients in a timely manner and assisting the provider with staying timely on their schedule , • Delivers an exceptional patient experience, and helps patients prepare for their provider visit , • Obtains vital signs, chief complaint and reviews medications , • Delivers patient screenings per protocols , • Orders supplies and stocks exam rooms , • Conducts routine quality control checks, including infection control measures, equipment QAs, and checks for expired medication and supplies , • Ensures exam rooms are clean, safe, and ready for patient visits , • Under direction of an RN, provider and/or protocol, provides telephonic support to patients , • Assists providers, RNs or social workers with home based support for high risk members, as necessary , • Under direction of an RN or Provider, offers MA appropriate 'visits', such as administering vaccinations and performing procedures, including but not limited to: ABI, spirometry, EKGs, etc. , • Performs waived laboratory testing , • Schedules diagnostic testing , • Applies or assists with application of durable medical equipment , • Supports care team with obtaining medical records, and ensuring records are scanned into the EMR per protocols , • Participates in care team meetings to discuss patient care and clinic operations , • Other duties, as assigned Requirements • CPR Certification required , • Medical Assistant certification or registration , • 3-5 years in a Medical Assistant role preferred , • EMR experience required , • 2 or more years of experience working with geriatric patients , • Phlebotomy Technician Certification preferred , • Strong communication skills and customer service orientation , • Demonstrates problem-solving skills, accountability, and a flexible, positive attitude , • Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by people in the communities we serve (where necessary) , • US work authorization Nice-to-haves • Experience in a fast-paced healthcare environment , • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting , • Experience with home-based patient support Benefits • Competitive benefits including paid vacation and sick time , • Generous 401K match with immediate vesting , • Health benefits Anticipated Weekly Hours 40 Time Type Full time Pay Range The typical pay range for this role is: $18.50 - $31.72 This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. Responsibilities Position Objective: The Medical Assistant is a clinical role and is responsible for administrative and clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, assisting physicians with exams, and performing front-desk tasks. This role is a safety-sensitive position as it involves direct patient care and administering medication. The incumbent will report to the Office Manager (or similar role) and will provide physician support services while providing positive patient experiences. Responsibilities: Greet and prepare patients for provider examination by obtaining patient history, chief complaint, current medications, medical history, allergies, surgical history, family history, social history, and other preventative medicine reviews, take patients' vitals, and record information in the patient electronic medical record Assist provider with examination, treatments, and procedures as directed Maintain complete and detailed records, electronically in the EMR, of patients’ information Measure and record vital signs and record them in the EMR Accurately and professionally handle all front-desk operations, including answering phones, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, addressing routine inquiries, and triaging calls Maintain patient medical records in accordance with the center's policy Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or providers’ instructions to patients Prepare both patient and room for examination Complete patient phone calls including, but not limited to, proactive care coordination, medication reminders, appointment reminders, transitional care management, and complete documentation with telephone encounters accordingly.
