Short Description

  • Responsible for setting up the patient in the exam room 
  • Perform and Document:
    • Vital signs (manual BPs),
    •  EKGs,
    •  Reconciliation of medications
    • Reason for visit, health care concern
  • Interview/Discuss with patient changes in patient’s health since last visit
  • Assist the provider with minor surgical procedures
  • Prepare appropriate medications for injections
  • Responsible for phone messages, faxes, and Medical Reception responsibilities as needed

Knowledge of medical insurance terminology, computer skills for scheduling and familiarity of general office procedures and equipment


Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

 


License/Certification Requirements

  • Certificate Medical Assistant
  • BLS Certification

Responsibilities Position Summary: Responsible for general MA functions such as H&P, communication with physicians and staff, as well as cleaning rooms. Handles physician messages. Position Responsibilities/Standards: General Attend department, clinic or company meetings as required. Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns. Consistently work in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow staff members. Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary. Specific Duties EMR intake completed at time of service. Escort patients to room. Review H&P for New patients and/or new problems. Requires completion prior to physician seeing patient. Medical assistance as needed (casting, suture removal, draw injections, record prescriptions). Give instructions to patient with regard to issues with casts. Assist with physical therapy requests, off work requests, school notes. Assigning coding procedures performed and diagnosis determined by physician. Document on encounter form. Reviews encounter form for completeness and accuracy of coding, assuring all procedures and supplies noted. Responsible to receive and reply to medical related messages and prescription requests from patients. Record in patient record. Communication with physicians and staff. Responsible for compliance of OSHA regulations-biohazardous disposal. Order medical supplies as needed. Assist with medical records filing when necessary. Disposal of expired medications Facilitate scheduling outpatient testing and pre certification for MRI, CT, Bonescan, Dexascan and other tests as necessary. Assures exam rooms and clinic work areas are clean and tidy at all times for the next scheduled clinic. Additional Duties Saturday on-call if necessary. Travel to satellite offices if necessary. Assist with scheduling outpatient testing and pre-certifications. Other Duties Obtain the readings for MRIs and X-rays for the physician to review and diagnose. May require travel and follow up with local radiologists. Contact the ancillary services to align follow up care and promote the communication between all parties. Develop a streamline process for the message, written or verbal, to patient after review with physician. Physical Requirements: Physical requirements for the position include the ability to frequently hear and communicate orally, see up close and at a distance, read and comprehend, stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and/or feel objects. Must be able to climb, pull, push, and kneel. Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift 25-50 lbs. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a certified Medical Assistant program (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a clinical setting; orthopedic or surgical specialty experience is a plus. Proficiency in EMR systems and basic computer applications. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. Preferred Skills: Experience with orthopedic-specific EMR systems (e.g., Athenahealth, NextGen, Epic). Familiarity with medical terminology, procedures, and durable medical equipment (DME).
