Sleep Medicine Nurse Practitioner

Overview

Central Maine Healthcare is an integrated healthcare delivery system serving 400,000 people living in central, western and Midcoastal Maine. Responsibilities

Position Summary: The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing primary healthcare to patients and families, focusing on health maintenance, disease prevention, patient education and counseling. Works according to Maine State Rules and Regulations following established Policies and Procedures as required and within established scope of practice. Must be a friendly, energetic and team oriented person looking for a long term commitment. Proficient use of an EMR system, excellent communications skills and pediatric experience a plus.Duties and Responsibilities:Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:1. Demonstrates the ability to perform physical exams on all age appropriate patients.2. Obtains and documents patient's medical history. Identifies health risk factors.3. Demonstrates the ability to assess, diagnose and treat acute illnesses.4. Demonstrates the ability to assess, diagnose and treat chronic illnesses.5. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.6. Orders and interprets diagnostic tests, procedures, i.e., laboratory work, x-rays, EKG.7. Demonstrates the ability to prescribe medications and non-pharmacological therapies based on the patient's diagnoses, health history and age.8. Applies standardized care guidelines in clinical practice.9. Provides patient and/or family with health education and counseling and referrals to appropriate healthcare professionals and community resources.10. Assesses and documents patient and/or family psychosocial issues.11. Treats patients and families with respect and dignity.12. Collaborates with physicians and other members of the health team to plan optimal care for the patient.13. Works with the patient and family to formulate a patient treatment and education plan.14. Provides follow-up care, determines effectiveness of the treatment plan, reassesses and changes the plan as needed.15. Documentation meets all standards and policies. Documentation includes all findings, interventions and results.16. Functions as a patient and family advocate.17. Consults with physicians and/or other health care providers when appropriate.18. Coordinates patient care and makes referrals as indicated.19. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.20. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.21. Stays current with medical advancements, new technology, new drugs through continuing education classes, society meetings, professional journals etc.22. Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.23. Attends required departmental, organizational and medical staff committee meetings as appropriate.24. Assists with development and implementation of specific policies and procedures.25. Customer Service: Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support, and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.a. Maintains a pleasant and helpful demeanor, and presents a professional appearance toward all internal and external customers at all times.b. Consistently initiates interaction to provide assistance to individuals who may not be direct customers of the employee (i.e. asks patients who appear to be lost if they need assistance in finding their way).c. Takes appropriate action to recover from a service difficulty, ensuring that the necessary action is taken to affect a resolution to the customer’s problem.d. Conducts all work activities with respect for coworkers, including the maintenance of a pleasant and professional environment, fostering calmness during stressful situations.e. Interacts with supervisory personnel in a professional, supportive and courteous manner, venting emotions appropriate to time and place.f. Demonstrates a commitment to service by consistent attendance and punctuality, scheduling absences according to departmental requirements, and incurring unplanned absences only when unavoidable circumstances exist.

Maintains a safe work environment and performs duties of the position in a manner consistent with ensuring the safety of self and others.e. Identifies safety needs in areas outside own work environment, recommending corrective action as appropriate.35. Expense Control: Performs job duties in a manner that maximizes expense control.a. Performs job tasks efficiently and effectively resulting in no unplanned overtime.Regulatory Requirements:• Current Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse License in the State of Maine. Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
